The WVSU Mathematics Department proudly congratulates Dr. Dolly Rose F. Temelo, a dedicated faculty member of our department, for successfully completing the Master in Development Management (Middle Managers Class) with honors at the Development Academy of the Philippines.

The graduation ceremony was held on January 30, 2026, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City, Philippines.

The Public Management Development Middle Managers Class is designed for intelligent, innovative, and dynamic junior managers who demonstrate strong commitment to public service and show promise of assuming greater responsibilities in the bureaucracy.

Dr. Temelo’s achievement reflects her excellence, dedication, and continued pursuit of professional growth in service of the university and the community.

The International Workshop on Mathematical Biology (IWOMB) 2026 officially started today, January 6, 2026. The event began with Dr. Aurelio de los Reyes, President of the Philippine Society for Mathematical Biology, and Dr. Greta Gabinete, Vice President for REI, setting the tone for a week of innovation and collaboration.

Dr. Jomar Rabajante, IWOMB 2026 Chair, presented the conference/workshop agenda, and excitement is high as we transition to our very first Plenary Session led by the world-renowned and brilliant mathematician Dr. Stacey Smith?.

The first day of the 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 (𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐒𝐄𝐓) 3.0 Camp was a resounding success! This three-day intensive onsite camp, running from December 10–12, 2025, is the exciting culmination of ProbSET B, following a series of online sessions coached by the Mathematics Department of Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU). The event is a collaborative effort organized by the Mathematics Departments of West Visayas State University (WVSU), Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), and AdMU, in partnership with DepEd Passi City, and is proudly hosted by Passi National High School.

Day 1 set a high bar with engaging sessions on Recreational Math and Algebra, notably highlighted by the presence of the overall ProbSET 3.0 Coordinator from AdMU, Dr. Eden Delight Miro. She joined the session trainers Dr. Alexander J. Balsomo, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at WVSU, and Prof. John Alexis B. Gemino from the WVSU Mathematics Department, alongside Prof. Rufino Teves Segura and Prof. Irish Glory Garsulao from ISAT U.

Today marks Day 2, where the focus shifts to Combinatorics with Prof. Faye Margaret F. Celendro as the session trainer. The camp will conclude tomorrow with the highly anticipated ProbSET Palaro. This final activity allows student-participants to showcase their analytical proficiency in a fun, intellectually stimulating environment, perfectly capping off their ProbSET B journey.

Problem-Solving Enrichment and Training (ProbSET) is a comprehensive program that cultivates a community of educators and students dedicated to nation-building through problem-solving. A joint initiative by the Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of Mathematics and partner State Universities/Colleges (SUCs) and Department of Education (DepEd) divisions nationwide, ProbSET aims to inspire and equip individuals with the skills and mindset needed to address complex challenges.

The Mathematics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences proudly congratulates ZED LEXTER T. CAUSING, from BS Nursing 1A, for winning 1ST RUNNER-UP during the Regional Championship of the 29th Philippine Statistics Quiz – Western Visayas, held on November 6, 2025, at District 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.

The Top 3 spots in this prestigious competition were all from Iloilo. The Champion and 2nd Runner-Up came from Central Philippine University.

The WVSU – College of Arts and Sciences, Mathematics Department, proudly congratulates ZED LEXTER T. CAUSING, a BS Nursing student, for winning 2ND PLACE in the 29th Philippine Statistics Quiz – Iloilo Provincial Elimination held on October 24, 2025, at Smallville 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.

Zed will represent Iloilo Province in the upcoming Regional Statistics Quiz on November 6, 2025, alongside the 1st placer, and the 3rd placer from CPU.

We also commend our other WVSU representatives for their strong performances: Nico Rovin Malayo from BSIT, and Venice Lorraine Siva, from BS Nursing.

From Data to Decisions: Empowering PSC Guimaras through Capacity Building on Data Analytics and Policy Reporting

As part of the celebration of the National Statistics Month, West Visayas State University (WVSU), through the Mathematics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), is once again partnering with the Provincial Government of Guimaras (PGG) in conducting a comprehensive 4-day training on data management, analysis, and policy reporting.

Held from October 21 to 24, 2025, at the New Provincial Capitol, this capacity-building activity aims to equip members of the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) with essential skills to effectively process, interpret, and communicate statistical data—ultimately strengthening evidence-based decision-making across the province.

The training kicked off with sessions on descriptive and exploratory data analysis and visualization using Excel, followed by an in-depth session on data management and spreadsheet modeling. Over the next two days, participants will explore advanced spreadsheet modeling and policy brief writing. The program will culminate with output presentations and evaluations on the final day.

This initiative is further supported by key local agencies, including the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Provincial Human Resource Management and Development Section (PHRMDS), and the Philippine Statistics Authority–Guimaras (PSA Guimaras)—exemplifying a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach to advancing data literacy and governance.
