What may have started out as vague or passionate interests in foreign language, culture, and media has now transformed into something bigger—a drive to truly connect with others, a purpose to impart what has been gained, and even a curiosity to dig deeper into the field or discover new horizons. 🗺️

Through the fire, and through the rain, you have been tempered by struggles both seen and unseen, but by your grit, persistence, and assistance from mentors and loved ones, you have finally reach the end of your undergraduate journey.

Now, as your paths diverge from the University, may you cherish the people you've found, continue to remember the values you learned, and hone the skills you worked hard to build.

After three years, the honor once again returns to ABFL, reflecting the excellence, resilience, and passion that continue to define the Foreign Language program and the students who carry its values forward.

In his speech during CAS Parangal 2026, Bryl reflected on a journey shaped by patience, consistency, and quiet perseverance. Through the Korean proverb “서당 개 삼년에 풍월 읊는다,” or “𝘼𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙙𝙤𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙖 𝙥𝙤𝙚𝙢,” he reminded everyone that growth is never immediate, but something built slowly through continuous effort and the courage to keep moving forward even during uncertainty.

He spoke honestly about entering the ABFL program with little background in Korean and how the language once felt unfamiliar and overwhelming. There were moments of confusion, self-doubt, exhaustion, and quiet frustration during his early years in the program. Yet instead of allowing those struggles to discourage him, they deepened his curiosity and pushed him to continue learning beyond the classroom. Through patience and persistence, the lessons that once intimidated him eventually became lessons he could confidently understand and carry with him.

One of the most meaningful reflections from his speech was his comparison of growth to a tree quietly deepening its roots beneath the surface. He shared that growth does not happen overnight, but through enduring difficult seasons, surviving storms, and continuing even when progress feels invisible. In the same way, the sleepless nights, mistakes, failures, and silent battles students experience are not signs of weakness, but part of the process that slowly shapes them into stronger individuals.

His words resonated deeply because they reflected the journey many students silently carry throughout college. His story stands as a reminder that learning a foreign language goes far beyond memorizing vocabulary or mastering grammar. It demands resilience, humility, discipline, and the willingness to continue even when the journey feels uncertain.

Bryl’s achievement reflects the values that the Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language continues to uphold through the years. His journey embodies the passion, perseverance, and growth that continue to shape the ABFL community.
We celebrate this milestone with immense pride, Bryl. Congratulations once again, and may you continue carrying the same heart, humility, and dedication wherever life leads you next.

𝗙𝗟𝗦𝗦 𝗝𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗨𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗢 𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗕𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗬

The Foreign Languages Students’ Society participated in the UNESCO Clubs of the Philippines Regional Assembly – Western Visayas held at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol - Session Hall on May 18, 2026.

Representing FLSS were Japheth Marie Fernandez de Leon, Vice Chairperson for Japanese Affiliation; Trixie Rose Alajar, 1st Year Batch Representative; and Nathan Andre M. Delmo, Former 1st Year Batch Representative (A.Y. 2024-2025).

The assembly gathered youth delegates and student organizations across the region for an afternoon centered on collaboration, cultural exchange, and youth-driven initiatives anchored on peace, education, heritage preservation, and sustainable development.

The program opened with a plenary session with Ms. Leny Ledesma, Executive Assistant for Special Projects and focal for UNESCO Creative Cities Network, where she detailed the legwork behind the bid for Iloilo as a Creative City for Gastronomy, and the measures being taken to ensure the title is kept. A key insight that she shared was the gastronomy ecosystem composed of the farmers, markets, chefs, and communities - highlighting the cooperation between various sectors to sustain and innovate the field.

This was followed by a discussion on the 2026 Calendar of Activities alongside requirements for club accreditation and re-accreditation.

Organized by the UNESCO Clubs of the Philippines in partnership with the Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan – Lalawigan ng Iloilo, the event served as a platform for young leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue and strengthen regional connections through shared advocacies and action.

As an organization rooted in language, culture, and global engagement, FLSS remains committed to participating in spaces that encourage intercultural understanding and youth empowerment.

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃𝐒.

Five research teams from 𝑩𝑨𝑭𝑳 4𝑨 𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒖 𝒏𝒐 𝑲𝒊𝒛𝒖𝒏𝒂 once again presented their studies for the selection of the Best Thesis of the Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language last May 7, 2026, held at the Lopez Jaena Hall Discussion Room 2.

The presentations were evaluated by Rosemarie M. Java, CAS Research Coordinator, Arizza Inocencio, DELS Faculty and Korean Instructor, and Dr. Joy Pantino, Chair of the Department of Language Studies.

After careful deliberation, this year’s 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 was awarded to:
