UP President Angelo Jimenez has released a statement affirming the university's solidarity with the rest of the country in calling for integrity, transparency and accountability in the anti-corruption mobilizations of Sept. 21, Sunday.

Underscoring the impact of corruption, President Jimenez said "it robs our people of opportunities for quality education, healthcare and sustainable development."

What was the climate at the University of the Philippines under Martial Law? This archival footage from 1981 captures a campus protest at the historic Palma Hall Steps — then known as the College of Arts and Sciences — where students gathered to defiantly read the Philippine Collegian and sing the protest song, “Ang Masa.” In those turbulent years, universities like UP stood as bastions of critical thought, defending democratic rights and academic freedom — a role that is even more urgent today amid decades of disinformation and normalized corruption. 👉 Do you recognize any of the faces?
