Between January 1 and February 25, 2023, there were 2,407 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease reported in the province of Iloilo. According to the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Provincial Health Office, the numbers are 2,214% higher than the 104 instances during the same period last year.

Most of the patients are youngsters between the ages of 1 and 10. Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children but can also affect adults. The infection usually involves the hands, feet, mouth, and sometimes even the ge****ls and buttocks. In most cases, Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is caused by coxsackievirus A type 16, but the infection can also be caused by many other strains of coxsackieviruses and enteroviruses.

Although there is no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Frequent hand-washing and avoiding close contact with people who have hand-foot-and-mouth disease may help lower your child's risk of infection.

To this day, Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease cases continue to rise, especially in our province. Hence, it is our duty as a community to band together to fight against this disease.

Traveling is undoubtedly written in everybody's bucket list, but before we start exploring the different cultures and traditions of other countries we should first explore our very own.
