Last April 16, 2026, the Chemistry Department proudly took part in 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸. Bringing together researchers, innovators, and future scientists, the event became a vibrant platform for celebrating scientific discovery, collaboration, and innovation-driven learning. ⚗️💡

On April 17, 2026, 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗦 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 visited 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 in 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹, gaining firsthand exposure to chemistry on an industrial scale. The experience included exploring various 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 and 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, and visiting a 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 where plants are cultivated in controlled environments.

A meaningful and enriching experience that highlighted the role of chemistry in industry and innovation. ⚗⚛

𝘓𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩! 🌩️ 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 can 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 like skyscrapers, towers, and trees. This happens because lightning follows the 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.

Before a strike, a 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿, an invisible channel of charged air, moves downward from the cloud while 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 rise from the ground. When they connect, a 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘀, releasing 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗻 and producing the 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵 we see.

This process can repeat rapidly along the same path, which is why certain locations get struck again and again during a storm. Lightning rods help by safely guiding this immense energy into the ground, reducing the risk of damage. ⚡
