Here is an expert from the chapterโs abstract:
โA psychologically safe environment built on trust, respect, and open communication empowers teachers, positively impacting their growth and well-being. However, factors like heavy workloads, lack of support, and poor workโlife balance can negatively impact teacher well-being, leading to burnout, stress, decreased job satisfaction, and, ultimately, attrition. Quiet quitting, characterized by intentional disengagement and reduced performance, is a concerning trend that may arise from these factors. To address these issues, it is essential to prioritize teacher well-being by creating supportive school environments, reducing workload, providing adequate resources, and fostering a culture of respect and appreciation.โ
The UPV ProfEd communityโs network of professional school personnel will find the studyโs findings and recommendations relevant and meaningful in framing the conversation, policies, and prospects to address teacher well-being and professional work context.

Demonstrating their commitment to advancing language education, the Master of Education in English as a Second Language (MEd ESL) II students facilitated the seminar-workshop โ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ฌ: ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐โ on April 18, 2026, at the Multipurpose Building I of the University of the Philippines Visayas.
As part of their EDL 241 (Language Test Development in Bilingual Context) course, the graduate students facilitated sessions on Language Assessment and Testing, aiming to integrate theoretical foundations with practical classroom application. Selected speakers from the class led the discussions, guiding participants in exploring key principles of language assessment, examining common issues in testing practices, and engaging in hands-on activities such as crafting of Bilingual Education Implementation Plan (BEIP)and designing Language Tests in Bilingual Contexts.
Also present during the event were Prof. Joven Llabore and Prof. Martin Ryan Suamen, whose presence further enriched the learning experience.
Through these collaborative efforts, participants deepened their understanding of valid, reliable, and fair assessment practices, equipping them with essential skills for real teaching and learning contexts.

The Division of Professional Education (ProfEd) is proud and happy to celebrate the achievement of one of its junior faculty members, Asst. Prof. Jamie Marie I. Nacabu-an for presenting her paper entitled, โPanakayon: Development of Contextualized 3Hโs Game-based Learning Material for Highschool Studentsโ and garnering the Best Presentation award in the Strategies for Enhancing Educational Access and Engagement session of the 12th International Conference on Education held in Bali, Indonesia last 26-28 March 2026.
More than 20 universities from Southeast Asia and beyond served as institutional co-partners in this conference that sought to โbring together educators, researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to discuss innovative pedagogies, digital transformation, equitable access to education, and evidence-based policymakingโ.
Asst. Prof. Nacabu-anโs paper aligns with one of the ProfEdโs research and impact thrusts, partnering with local communities and drawing upon their complex realities and wealth of socio-cultural resources as resources and processes in the development and operationalization of contextualized teaching and learning materials to improve learning outcomes. Her previous experience as a basic education Mathematics teacher in private and public schools plus her new and current role as a teacher at UP High School in Iloilo, a laboratory high school and a junior faculty member co-teaching a course in the Master of Education (MEd) program where innovations in instruction and assessments are highlighted, foregrounds her current research area of interest on gamification, engagement, collaborative learning, and place-based education.
Panginbulahan, Asst. Prof. Jamie Marie I. Nacabu-an

Their work offers vital insights into the well-being of students in rural Philippine universities. Drawing on data from 217 college students in the Bicol and Northern Mindanao regions, the study identifies academic buoyancy, academic self-efficacy, regular breakfast consumption, peer support, and life satisfaction as significant predictors of flourishing; predictors of social and psychological well-being. However, other factors such as exercise, sleep, family income, and family support were not significant, drawing attention to the unique dynamics of college student life in rural communities. The findings underscore the importance of fostering resilience, confidence, healthy habits, and peer connections through targeted student support services and program development. Actionable recommendations from the paper centers on urging educators, administrators, and policymakers to enhance student well-being and academic success in resource-limited settings.
The UPV ProfEd communityโs network of professional school personnel will find the studyโs methodology, key findings, and practical implications relevant to their practice and in designing their own practice-based inquiry projects.
