The University of San Agustin celebrated another milestone by obtaining the first Philippine patent for health research in Western Visayas.
This groundbreaking discovery, named โIsolated Bacterial Strain of the Genus Streptomyces and Antibiotic Metabolites Therefrom,โ described the potential of a beneficial bacteria from Iloilo marine sand that produces antibiotics.

The launching of the USA-ITSO Vlog was also the launching of the ITSO Newsletter, to commemorate the IP Awareness Month Celebration this April. The USA - ITSO Newsletter and VLOG are the first of their kind, to be produced by an ITSO under the ITSO franchise.

ITSO IP ROADSHOW IN ILOILO CITY
The University of San Agustin ITSO Associate for Training and Education; Ms. Aneline P. Tolones together with the Associate for Communication; Gordon Q. Guillergan, started 2019, with the ITSO IP Roadshow in different schools in Iloilo City.
They have targeted, Iloilo City Highschool, Iloilo National Highschool, Jaro Highschool, La Paz Highschool, and Ramon Avancena Highschool.
The said Road Show targets to raise IP Awareness for Highschool students in the city.

USA - 2019 PATENT DRAFTING WORKSHOP
As a continuation of the last yearโs Seminar Workshop on Intellectual Property, the Innovation and Technology Support Office has once again conducted its quarterly workshop seminar on training and education on Intellectual Property on March 13 and 20, 2019 at Dolse Garcia Conference Room. This year, the seminar-workshop was focused more on patent drafting wherein students and faculty were taught step-by-step how to draft patent applications based on their research papers.
Organized by ITSO Associates, the seminar workshop was spearheaded by Engr. Achilles E. Espaldon, Associate for Patents and Utility Model, Ms. Aneline P. Tolones, Associate for Training and Education, and Mr. Gordon Q. Guillergan, Associate for Communication and Legal Affairs.
The objectives of the said seminar-workshop were: (a) train and help students draft patent applications for their research work; (b) encourage both faculty and students to file for IP protection of their patentable research work; (c) discover potential patent and utility model filing through the studentsโ research work.
The said event was welcomed and opened by Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, Associate Vice President for Research and Global Relations. Ms. Aneline P. Tolones, ITSO Associate for Training and Education gave the introductory speech for the seminar workshop.
Students and faculty from various colleges and departments within the University attended the workshop.
Engr. Achilles E. Espaldon, ITSO Associate for Patents, Utility Models, and Designs, served as both speaker and lecturer of the two-part workshop.
During the seminar workshop, students and faculty alike were given lectures and hands-on activities on how to draft their patent applications based on the research works. In addition, students were given the opportunity to present their patent drafts before the audience.
By the end of the workshop, the students as well as the faculty were encouraged to submit their drafts to ITSO for potential patent/utility model filing to IPOPHL.

The Innovation of Technology Support Office (ITSO) has reached yet another milestone not just in the academe but also in the field of tourism by extending its assistance to a local government organization, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI).
During the awarding ceremony of the winners of the Dinagyang contest, it was such an honor and privilege that the Innovation and Technology Support Office through its Associate for Communication and Legal Affairs, Mr. Gordon Q. Guillergan, was awarded a certificate of appreciation and a plaque of recognition by Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) for the valuable effort in providing legal assistance in the trademark of the name "Dinagyang".
The said awarding was held at the new Freedom Grandstand in Muelle Loney, Iloilo City on January 27, 2019

Organizes IP Protect Seminar-Workshop
The Innovation and Technology Office (ITSO) in cooperation with IPOPHL-IPSO RVI once again championed Intellectual Property awareness and protection by organizing a seminar-workshop on Intellectual Property Registrability Seminar and Workshop on September 26, 2018, at Aguirre Hall 41 at the University of San Agustin.
To better acquaint the students as well as the Faculty with all things about Intellectual Property Protection, ITSO has yet again organized a seminar-type workshop.
The seminar-workshop itself included topics on the various forms of Intellectual property as well as their protection, a workshop on prior art searches, inventions, and case studies on the different lawsuits involving intellectual property infringements. Furthermore, this seminar-workshop aimed at educating and making the students and faculty aware and well-informed about the various forms of Intellectual property as well as on how to protect them through registration to IPOPHL.
Present during the said event was the Associate Vice President for Research and Global Relations, Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, who also gave the welcoming remarks. Furthermore, Ms. Aneline P. Tolones, ITSO Associate for Training and Education gave the inductor speech during the program.
Guest speaker and lecturer, Ms. Marianne Tajanlangit-Bebit, IP Field Operations Specialist, conducted a lecture workshop on the various IPs.
Dr. Assem S. el Baghdady, Director of the Innovation and Technology Support Office, gave his lecture on inventions while Engr. Achilles E. Espaldon, ITSO Associate, conducted a workshop on prior art search wherein students and faculty alike were taught to do hands-on prior art search exercises using online databases.
Mr. Gordon Q. Guillergan, ITSO Associate for Communication and Legal Affairs, shared his expertise in the legal aspect of Intellectual Property by citing some case studies on IP infringements.
Students as well as faculty members from different colleges attended the said event.

Associate Joins Patent Search and Drafting Writeshop
With the annual Patent Search and Drafting Writeshop organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) through its Associate for Communication and Legal Affairs, Mr. Gordon Q. Guillergan joined the said activity.
The said writeshop was held at the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Basak,
Cebu City on September 10-14, 2018.
ITSO representatives and delegates from various educational institutions all over the Visayas and Mindanao regions participated in the event.
During the five-day writeshop, participants were educated and trained on how to do patent searches as well as how to draft patents. Participants brought technologies wherein they could do hands-on activity on patent searching and patent drafting.
At the end of the writeshop, the technologies brought by the participants were submitted as official applications as to what category of IP their technologies would fall under.

2018 National Intellectual Property Rights in Iloilo
As part of the month-long celebration of National Intellectual Property Rights, it was a privilege and honor for the University of San Agustin to host the 2018 Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights on April 26, 2018, at the Presidentโs Conference Room.
Mandated by the Proclamation No. 190 s.2017 Issued by Pres. Duterte, the month of April is considered National Intellectual Property Month.
The USA-ITSO in partnership with Intellectual Property Field Operations Unit (IPFO) through its Intellectual Property Satellite Office (IPSO) in Iloilo conducted a seminar about Intellectual Property Rights, with the theme โItaguyod ang Yamang Isip Tungo sa Kaunlaran,โ which focused on the โyamang isipโ in order to foster and to develop the countryโs intellectual property to encourage creativity and innovation for the continued growth of the country.
Ms. Marianne Tajanlangit-Bebit, IPSO Field Operations Specialist, was the seminar's guest speaker. During the said activity, Ms. Bebit talked about the various topics on Intellectual Property such as Copyright, Trademarks, and Patents.
The seminar was participated and supported by ITSO representatives from various academic institutions, namely, Central Philippine University, Iloilo State College of Fisheries, and West Visayas State University, members from the business and medical sectors, and local groups of artists.
