One of the board examiners of Board of Dentistry would prefer a design made correctly and following basic principles in designing an RPD. SIMPLE. Other than that, IT SHOULD BE NEATLY written on the casts, no smudge, no erased area or no overlapping lines.

Angulation and position of the bur are important in order to achieve that parallelism appearance of the preparation. Unnecessary angulation of the bur may result to over reduction and other unexpected reductions. You also need to consider your position beside the dental chair based on what teeth youre going to reduce, and yes we teach that also, all the basics.

The correct tooth prepration should be:
Convergent buccolingually
Divergent mesiodistally
Principles of tooth preparation in Restorative Dentistry should be basically emphasized.
We teach thorough practical reviews and this is a one on one kind.
You should know better.

In fixed partial denture, parallelism is a principle used to gain maximum retention between vertical tooth surfaces. It is also used in restoration and putting a dental appliance. But we are more familiar of its principle in FPD tooth preparation.
As you can see in the photo below, the distal and mesial surfaces of the teeth prepared are in parallel to one another. Thats how you look at your prep. The second photo is a different angle but still the teeth prepared are in parallel.
Congratulations! You just learned parallelism in FPD. 😄😄👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏
We offer one on one training and tutorials. Message us for inquiries.

"Parallel to the long axis of the tooth"
This is the best initial technique when doing tooth preparations on a fixed partial denture. This may reduce the incidence of undercuts and help make that "parallelism" effect on your abutment teeth.
Its not just a tooth reduction so know the principles why. We always instill strict application of this rule to ensure reviewees would have a better tooth preparation outcome. This initial technique will help develop learned dexterity.

In complete denture practical review, we encourage reviewees to use the Semi-Adjustable Articulator as this will have additional points. We also teach reviewees how to balance the occlusion as this was indicated in the new guidelines set by the PRC-Board of Dentistry.
