The Office develops consortia and cooperation, with principles of reciprocity and parity, in consonance with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO’s Perspective on the Future of Higher Education in 2050, the economic agenda of the Office of the President of the Philippines, Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) National Higher Education Research Agenda, and National Integrated Basic, DOST-CHEd Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda, National Integrated Basic Research, and the Gender Responsive Extension Agenda. It also acts as a centralized repository of both physical or virtual, for the storage, management, and dissemination of data and information on internationalization.

WVSU College of Business and Management Welcomes Distinguished International Visiting Professor!

The West Visayas State University – College of Business and Management (WVSU-CBM) is delighted and honored to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Raziff Bin Jamaluddin, Head of Corporate Communication and Event Management at the Institute of Business Excellence, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Selangor, Malaysia, as our distinguished Visiting Professor.

From September 16–19, 2026, Dr. Jamaluddin will be joining the WVSU-CBM community for a meaningful academic engagement that brings together international expertise, knowledge exchange, and collaborative learning in the field of business and management.

His visit reflects the College’s continuing commitment to internationalization, academic excellence, and global partnerships. Creating opportunities for students, faculty, and the wider academic community to gain valuable insights from international scholars and practitioners.

West Visayas State University (WVSU) strengthens its commitment to global visibility and reputation of Philippine higher education institutions during the 2026 Filipino Leaders in Advancing International Reputation (FLAIR) Masterclass - Visayas Leg being held on September 8-9, 2026, in Bacolod City.

"WVSU's participation in the internationalization masterclass is just one of the many efforts in sustaining ethical partnerships, quality assurance, sustainable research, and global visibility, " said International and Local Linkages Office (ILLO) Director Edel Carmela Subong-Csoka, "During the establishment of the ILLO, internationalization became one of the top priority but we weren't thinking of rankings...Until one day, we realized ranking is a product of our years of collective efforts."

WVSU is recalled to gain rankings in QS Asia, UI Green Metrics, EduRank, Times Higher Education SIR, and the World University Impact Rankings (WURI).

With Ms Subong-Csoka is Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation (VPREI) Dr. Greta Gabinete,and Calinog Campus Internationalization (IZN) Coordinator Dr. May Joy Fernandez. Also present is Himamaylan City Campus represented by IZN Coordinator Ms. Stella Recaido with their Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE) Director Dr. Genevi F. Geroche; Campus Environmental Management Officer Meljun C. Perez, and Faculty member Edlin Z. Muzones.

Organized by the Commission on Higher Education - International Affairs Service (CHED - IAS) in partnership with CHED Negros Island Region under the theme "𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴: 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯," the two-day program aims to assist Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in strengthening participation and performance in international competitiveness, global visibility, sustainability impact, and institutional readiness.

West Visayas State University: Champs in ASEAN Tourguiding Challenge

The West Visayas State University Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management students emerge as Champions in 'Discover ASEAN: The Ultimate Tourguiding Challenge 2026' beating 10 other universities in the region during the recent ASEAN Horizons, organized by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 6.

The University was represented by JASMYN EHLA M. VILLERAN, BS in Tourism Management 4-A and EMMANUEL DANE J. SIASON, BS in Tourism Management 3-A.

𝗪𝗩𝗦𝗨 , 𝗬𝗼𝗸𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 forge stronger ties in transcultural nursing

ILOILO CITY, Philippines— West Visayas State University (WVSU) and Yokohama City University (YCU) of Japan marked a new milestone in international academic collaboration as the two institutions formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), strengthening their shared commitment to global learning, transcultural nursing education, and academic excellence.

The partnership brings together two institutions with a common vision of preparing future healthcare professionals to respond effectively and compassionately to the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world.

WVSU President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz welcomed the delegation from Yokohama City University, led by Dr. Eriko Shinohara and Assistant Professor Dr. Masaki Kidera, along with 19 students from YCU's Nursing Course under its School of Medicine, taking up Nursing and Midwifery.

The visit highlighted the growing relationship between WVSU and YCU and provided an opportunity for students and faculty members from both institutions to engage in meaningful academic and cultural exchanges.

For WVSU, the partnership is another significant step toward strengthening its internationalization agenda and creating more opportunities for students and educators to gain global perspectives without losing sight of the communities they serve.

The collaboration also places particular emphasis on transcultural learning—an increasingly important component of healthcare education as nurses and other health professionals work with patients from diverse cultural, social, and national backgrounds.

The YCU students' engagement with the WVSU community also allowed them to experience Philippine culture and gain insights into the country's healthcare and nursing education systems. At the same time, the interaction created opportunities for WVSU students and faculty members to learn from the Japanese healthcare context and engage with their counterparts from YCU.

Beyond lectures and formal academic discussions, the exchange underscored the value of people-to-people connections in international education. Through conversations, shared experiences, and intercultural interactions, students were encouraged to appreciate both the differences and common aspirations that unite future healthcare professionals across nations.

Dr. Eriko Shinohara and Assistant Professor Dr. Masaki Kidera expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the WVSU community and recognized the value of establishing meaningful partnerships that promote international understanding and collaborative learning.

In her closing remarks, Ms Edel Carmela S. Subong-Csoka, the Director of the International and Local Linkages Office of the University stressed that while the Philippines and Japan have differences in language, culture and location, the values of service, commitment, and dedication bind the two institutions.

From their journey as Korean language learners at 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐣𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐈𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐨 to pursuing their graduate studies in Korea, their achievements are a source of great pride for our KSI Iloilo community. She will be going to Ming Chuan University, a private university in Taiwan with three domestic campuses and an international campus in Michigan, United States of America.

The Taiwan ICDF Scholarship provides recipients with comprehensive support, including a monthly living allowance throughout the duration of their Masters or PhD program.

To recall, Ms. Sumpay was also the University’s first ever Canada ASEAN Sholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development scholar sent to Mohawk College, Hamilton, Canada in 2023, thru the International and Local Linkages Office.

Her exposure in the internationalization activities and programs of the University has changed her perspectives. She stressed, “I am looking forward to more experiences that will strengthen my character and bring out the best of my being a global citizen.”

In 2024, she was a recipient of The Outstanding Student of Iloilo Award. She is a former Student Regent and the University Student Council Chairperson for 2 consecutive terms.
