Every 25th of July, many publications celebrate National Campus Press Freedom Day to recognize campus journalists for their exquisite roles and reaffirm the importance of press freedom. Press freedom is not merely for student journalists — it is for every journalist that is committed to serve with truth, transparency, accountability.

Campus press is more than a celebration. It reminds us to never be afraid to report the truth, defending what is right, and uphold honesty, transparency, and accountability, even in times when fear seeks to stop their voices.
Campus journalism goes beyond writing stories—it plays a vital role in democracy by allowing students to ask questions, and spread information to their communities. Let us protect press freedom, defend the rights of campus journalists, and encourage students to speak the truth with courage and confidence.

The freedom to write should never be controlled by fear. No student journalist should be forced to choose between revealing the truth and facing threats, censorship, or retaliation. When the press is silenced, its purpose weakens, and a society that ignores silenced voices risks losing its connection to the truth.

Mga hiyawan at masigabong palakpakan ang natunghayan ng mga estudyante ng Jaro National High School (JNHS) sa Pagtatapos ng Hinampang 2026.

Noong Hulyo 17, 2026 pormal na naganap ang pagtatapos ng program ng Hinampang kung saan nagkaroon ng Championship game ang iba't ibang mga laro, hindi naiwasan mga sigawan at palakasang cheer ng mga estudyante sa iba’t ibang baitang upang ipakita ang kanilang suporta sa kanilang pambato sa iba't ibang larangan ng sports.

Natunghayan din ng mga estudyante ang mga
agawa eksena ng iba't ibang laro, nagpasiklaban sila ng galing, liksi, bilis at pagkakaisa. May iilan man na nasugatan at nadaplisan ang kanilang mga katawan, ngunit hindi ito ang naging hadlang upang hindi nila masungkit ang kampyonato para sa kanilang konseho kasabay ng kanilang determinasyon at diwang athleta naging matagumpay ang pagtatapos ng championship game sa Gymnasium ng Jaro National High School.

Nagbahagi ang isang estudyante ng kaniyang saloobin sa hinampang. Ayon sa kanya na nasasabik sya sa mga ipinapakitang galing ng manlalaro sa iba't ibang larangan ‎ng sports. Ayon din sakanya na ito’y isang ‎magandang karanasan sa bawat mag aaral ‎dahil nagbibigay ito ng inspirasyon sa kanila upang sumali rin at ipakita ang kanilang galing. Anya nya pa ang hinampang na ito ay mas makabuluhan at mas maganda kumpara noong nakaraang taon, naging mas magaling ang mga taktika ng mga manglalaro ngayon kumpara noon at mas naging matagumpay pa ang hinampang dahil marami na ang nakilahok dito.

Nagbigay din nang pananaw ang isang manlalaro ng basketball (babae). Para sa kanya ngayong hinampang ay mas naging magaling ang kanilang grupo ‎sa pag kakaroon ng magandang samahan at maayos na pagtatalaga ng mga manlalaro, dagdag pa niya na mas naging kapanapanabik ang laro sa kadahilanang mas marami na ang nanonood dito.

Bakas ang tuwa sa mukha ng isang coach ng sepak takraw. ‎Ayon sa kaniya, ngayong hinampang mas lalong naging kapanapanabik ang laro dahil sa maraming estudyanteng lumahok sa iba't ibang laro, at maraming dapat abangan sa susunod na hinampang. Mungkahi pa nang coach ay huwag magdalawang isip na sumali ang mga estudyante sa mga ganitong gawain sa paaralan dahil nakakadagdag pa ito sa kanilang kaalaman at kasanayan.

Sabay-sabay na maglalaban-laban ang mga pinakamahuhusay na manlalaro mula sa iba’t ibang paaralan sa nalalapit na District Meet 2026 na gaganapin sa darating na Agosto 1, 8 at 9.

Ayon sa District Sports Committee, layunin ng palaro na hubugin hindi lang ang galing sa sports kundi pati ang disiplina, teamwork, at sportsmanship ng mga kabataang atleta.

Kabilang sa mga palaro ngayong taon ang Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Sepak Takraw, at Arnis. Inaasahang lalahok ang daan-daang mag-aaral mula sa elementarya at sekundarya sa buong distrito.

Jaro National High School officially commenced the first day of Pahampang 2026 on July 4, 2026. Countless students from each council gathered on campus, transforming the grounds into a vibrant sea of colors. Every learner from Grades 7 to 12 filled the venue with excitement as loud music blasted through the speakers and cheers echoed across the grounds, marking the beginning of the highly awaited sports festival.

Hosted by emcees Anngelyn Hojilla and Elma Grace Genova, the opening ceremony featured the traditional parade of participants, led by the Grade 7 procession and followed progressively by Grades 8 through 12. Each council waved their banners, chanted cheers, and exhibited proud smiles. While the junior high school students brought a youthful energy to the parade, the senior high school students showcased confident dynamics, highlighting the overall enthusiasm and unity of the JNHS community.

The official program began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by the formal welcome of guests and participants. Sir Raquel C. Arancillo III, Master Teacher I, delivered the opening remarks for this year's sports festival. In his speech, he emphasized that the event serves not only as a venue for games, but also as a reminder of the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and unity throughout the competition.
"As we compete in different events, let us remember that winning is not the only goal. What truly matters is giving our best, respecting one another, and enjoying the experience," Sir Arancillo stated.

The ceremonial rituals soon followed as the Grade 7 Council initiated the hoisting of banners. Francesca Nicole Perez Chua, a standout student-athlete, then led the highlight of the ceremony by lighting the Pahampang torch to signal the formal start of the festivities. Afterwards, the participating athletes took part in the Oath of Sportsmanship, pledging to compete with fairness, integrity, and respect. Following the protocols, an intermission number from the Salog Dance Troupe energized the audience.

At exactly 8:00 A.M., Maam Edralyn Grozen officially opened the sports festival, declaring, "Let the games begin! Soar High, Jaro High." The announcement immediately sparked an explosion of cheers from every council throughout the venue.

With the opening ceremonies concluded, the competitions officially got underway as student-athletes from Grades 7 to 12 headed to their respective venues. The first Saturday roster featured strategic battles in chess and table tennis alongside fast-paced action in basketball, volleyball, badminton, and sepak takraw. Every match showcased determination, transforming the entire school campus into a vibrant arena filled with athletic drive.

Among all the sporting events, basketball drew the biggest crowd and the loudest cheers throughout the entire day. The Uswag Gym was packed to capacity with enthusiastic students whose nonstop applause created an electric atmosphere that fueled the players on the court, making the sport stand out as a clear crowd favorite.

Interviews with the student-athletes revealed a mixture of emotions as the tournament schedule progressed. While some participants admitted to feeling initial nerves before stepping onto the court, others expressed absolute confidence in their readiness to compete. Several athletes shared that they had sufficient time to prepare, while others noted they were working with a limited training window. Despite these differences in preparation, multiple competitors successfully secured their spots in the upcoming championship rounds.

Coaches also expressed immense pride in the student body for showcasing talent and determination across the different sporting events. They emphasized that while not every athlete begins with elite experience, every competition serves as a critical opportunity to learn and improve.

"They're learning, and eventually, even those who lost—I have faith in them to continue playing and never give up," one coach shared, highlighting the importance of perseverance beyond the final scoreboard results.

Parents, teachers, and school administrators convened at the Jaro National High School Covered Stage on June 20, 2026, for the General Parent-Teacher Association Meeting and Election of Officers, reaffirming their shared commitment to a stronger school-home partnership for the Academic Year 2026–2027.

The general meeting officially welcomed the new academic year through inspiring messages from school leaders. Outgoing GPTA President Ms. Alma T. Caro opened the program by encouraging parents to continue strengthening their partnership with the school in supporting every learner's growth and success.

Principal IV Maam Melanie J. Tabaculde then delivered the main address, presenting important updates for the new school year. She explained the school's three terms, adjustments to the grading system, and the shifting of classes to help parents better understand the changes that students will experience throughout the academic year. Her message emphasized that active participation from parents is essential in creating a positive and productive learning environment where students are prepared, supported, and ready to succeed.

The assembly proceeded with the presentation of the GPTA financial report by GPTA Treasurer Mrs. Imelda Solas, who outlined the school's expenses. Funds were allocated to support various school programs and organizations, including the Scouts, the Science Club's participation in the Division Science and Technology Fair, and Tribu Salognon. Certificates of recognition were also awarded to outgoing GPTA officers in appreciation of their dedicated service.

The program was re-energized by a musical performance from the Himig Salognon Singers, followed by a lively intermission number from the Salog Dance Troupe.

Attention then turned to the election phase as Mr. John H. Abaygar, HT-IV, clarified the rules, policies, and responsibilities of PTA members. He explained the election guidelines, including the selection of ten parent representatives to the school board, emphasizing that only parents or legal guardians of enrolled students were eligible for election as Homeroom PTA officers.

The voting phase began with the selection of Homeroom PTA officers across all grade levels, followed by a re-orientation on election procedures for newly elected section presidents, with attendance verified by Supreme Secondary Learner Government facilitators. Ballots were then distributed for the election of the ten parent representatives for the GPTA board of directors, after which parents cast their votes as SSLG facilitators proceeded with the tallying process.

The meeting adjourned with a renewed sense of solidarity among the parents and teachers, echoing the shared belief that meaningful progress is attained through coordinated action and teamwork.

Nagtipon-tipon sa school grounds ang buong komunidad ng Jaro National High School nang isinagawa ang National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) kahapon, Hunyo 18, upang subukin ang kahandaan ng paaralan laban sa posibleng pagtama ng kalamidad.

Eksaktong alas-9:00 ng umaga nang magsimula ang pagyanig para sa Morning Shift na nilahukan ng mga mag-aaral mula sa Grade 7, 8, at 9. Sumunod naman ang Afternoon Shift para sa Grade 10, 11, at 12 eksaktong alas-4:00 ng hapon.

Mabilis at organisadong isinagawa ng mga estudyante, g**o, at kawani ng paaralan ang "Duck, Cover, and Hold" bago tuluyang lumikas patungo sa mga itinalagang evacuation area.

Ang aktibidad na ito ay bahagi ng patuloy na kampanya ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon upang masanay ang mga paaralan sa mabilis at kalmadong pagtugon sa oras ng lindol.

The eighth day of June marked the official start of School Year 2026–2027 at Jaro National High School (JNHS), as early morning crowds filled the gates with students awaiting security checks, locating their designated classrooms, and preparing for the first morning flag-raising ceremony of the year.

The morning atmosphere put a clear mixture of emotions on display, contrasting the excited, confident expressions of returning Grades 8 to 12 upperclassmen with the visibly shy faces of the incoming Grade 7 freshmen.

For the Grade 7 students, stepping onto the massive campus brought a wave of excitement and nervousness. Many reluctantly parted from parents and former elementary classmates at the gates, navigating the busy corridors with room assignments in hand. Despite the pressure of adjusting to a completely foreign environment, the newest members of the JNHS family quickly found their bearings with the guidance of school monitors and teachers.

While many adjusting freshmen kept to themselves, others embraced the day with surprising confidence.

"I felt happy because I made new friends," one Grade 7 student shared. "I was also a little bit nervous during our introduction because I wasn't sure if my classmates and I would have the same sense of humor. I was worried that they wouldn't get my jokes. But thankfully, as we started talking to each other, I realized that we had a lot in common."

In stark contrast to the unfamiliarity felt by the freshmen, the Grade 10 upperclassmen navigated the campus with seasoned ease, locating their rooms immediately and seamlessly reuniting with long-time peers. However, the milestone day brought its own unique weight for the senior junior high school students.

"I'm happy, but at the same time sad because I'm about to enter Senior High School next year," a Grade 10 student admitted when asked about his final year in the department. "It's going to be more serious compared to Junior High, which felt a bit more relaxed, enjoyable, and fun."

Beyond the emotional reunions and introductions, the academic reality of the new school year began during the very first period. Class advisers formally introduced students to the Department of Education's new three-term academic calendar and laid down essential classroom policies. Several sections also held immediate classroom organization elections, establishing student leadership on day one.

As the afternoon bells rang to close the first day of classes, JNHS learners left the gates carrying fresh experiences, new friendships, and clear goals, ready to tackle the challenges of the three-term year ahead.

Masiglang sinimulan ng Jaro National High School (JNHS) ang School Year 2026–2027 sa pamamagitan ng magkahiwalay na flag-raising ceremonies para sa junior at senior high school learners na ginanap noong Hunyo 8, 2026, na sinabayan ng mga makabuluhang programa at interbensiyon mula sa mga mag-aaral bilang paghahanda sa panibagong taon ng pagkatuto.

Alas-6:00 ng umaga isinagawa ang unang programa para sa mga mag-aaral ng Grades 7, 8, at 9 na pinangunahan ng Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG). Naging bahagi ng programa ang pag-awit ng Pambansang Awit at Jaro Hymn, panalangin, Panunumpa sa Watawat, Panatang Makabayan, pagbasa ng DepEd Vision at Mission, presentasyon ng mga g**o, at pagkilala sa mga “Early Birds” o mga mag-aaral na maagang dumalo sa unang araw ng klase.

Sa kaniyang welcome message, binigyang-diin ni Melanie J. Tabaculde, Principal IV, ang mga pagbabagong dulot ng bagong kurikulum ng Department of Education (DepEd) at ang kahalagahan ng pagiging handa ng mga mag-aaral sa mga bagong polisiya at programa ng kagawaran.

Partikular niyang tinalakay ang Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program, isang inisyatiba ng DepEd na naglalayong matulungan ang mga mag-aaral na nangangailangan ng karagdagang suporta sa pagkatuto, lalo na sa pagbasa at iba pang pundamental na kasanayan. Ayon sa kaniya, may mga pagkakataong hindi nakadadalo ang ilang mag-aaral sa mga inilaan na intervention programs, kaya hinikayat niya ang lahat na aktibong makilahok sa mga programang makatutulong sa kanilang pag-unlad.

Binigyang-diin din ni Tabaculde na hindi dapat mahiyang humingi ng tulong ang mga mag-aaral kung sila ay nahihirapan sa pagbabasa o sa kanilang mga aralin. Aniya, handang umalalay ang mga g**o at ang paaralan upang matiyak na walang mag-aaral na maiiwan sa pagkatuto.

Kasabay nito, pinaalalahanan niya ang mga mag-aaral hinggil sa mas mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng mga patakaran ng paaralan, lalo na sa usapin ng pagpasok, pagliban, at pagpapanatili ng disiplina sa loob at labas ng silid-aralan.

Dagdag sigla sa umaga ang intermission number ng SSLG at School Dance Troupe (SDT) na umindak sa saliw ng kantang “First Day High” ng Kamikazee, na nagbigay kulay at enerhiya sa pagbabalik-eskwela ng mga Batang Salognon.

Samantala, alas-12:00 naman ng tanghali isinagawa ang hiwalay na flag-raising ceremony para sa mga mag-aaral ng Grades 10, 11, at 12. Katulad ng programa sa umaga, pinangunahan din ito ng SSLG at nilahukan ng mga g**o at mag-aaral mula sa iba't ibang antas.

Sa kaniyang mensahe para sa mga mag-aaral ng mga nakakataas na baitang, ipinaliwanag din ni Ma'am Tabaculde ang mga pagbabago sa bagong kurikulum, kabilang ang mga asignatura at oras ng klase na ipatutupad sa kasalukuyang taong panuruan. Tinalakay rin niya ang mga alituntunin kaugnay ng bagong school uniform at ang kahalagahan ng pagsunod sa mga itinakdang pamantayan ng paaralan.
Naging tampok din sa parehong programa ang presentasyon ng mga g**o upang higit na makilala ng mga mag-aaral ang mga g**ong gagabay sa kanila sa buong taon ng pag-aaral.

𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐌𝐍 | 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐄𝐝’𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝟑-𝐢𝐧-𝟏 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞: 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞

For decades, the rhythm of the Filipino student’s life was dictated by four predictable beats: the first, second, third, and fourth grading periods. It was a fast-paced assembly line. Students crammed for exams, survived the quarter, received their report cards, and immediately cleared their mental hard drives to start the cycle all over again.

But a massive shift is on the horizon. With the Department of Education transitioning basic education into a three-term school calendar, the traditional school calendar is being completely rewritten. Instead of four short quarters, the academic year will now be divided into three longer terms, stretching instructional blocks and introducing a dedicated two-week “Enrichment Block” at the end of each term.

On paper, this is brilliant. For years, our education system has been criticized for prioritizing coverage over mastery, forcing teachers to rush through heavy curricula while leaving struggling students behind. This three-term structure offers something desperate educators have begged for: breathing room. With 12 to 14 weeks per term, teachers have the luxury of time to ensure students actually understand a lesson before moving forward.

More importantly, the built-in Enrichment Block acts as a structural safety net. Rather than allowing a student to drown in failing marks until April, schools will now pause at the end of each term to offer immediate remediation for students who are falling behind.

However, a fair analysis means looking at the flip side, and this three-term setup introduces a pretty big catch. It completely removes the safety cushion we are used to, meaning one bad term can jeopardize your entire year.

In the old system, a bad quarter wasn’t the end of the world. It only counted for 25% of your final grade, so you had three other quarters to save your average. In a three-term year, that safety cushion is gone. Each term now counts for a massive 33.3% of your final grade. If you get sick, face a family problem, or just completely mess up one term, it burns a huge hole in your record that is mathematically brutal to fix. Plus, because a term is longer, your final exams will cover three months of lessons instead of two. Finals week is about to feel a lot more stressful.

There is also the big question of how this will actually work in real life. It sounds awesome to say we will get "special remedial classes" at the end of a term. But in a crowded classroom with 40 to 50 students, how can one teacher give special one-on-one help to the students who are behind, while keeping the rest of the class busy? Without real changes to our crowded schools, those two weeks might just turn into chaotic, unstructured free time.

Ultimately, this three-term calendar isn’t a magical fix, nor is it a complete disaster. It is a trade-off. We are giving up the fast, stressful sprints of the quarter system for a slower marathon where every single lap matters much more.

If our schools get the right support and teachers get the breathing room they need, this could help us actually master what we are learning. But if we are just thrown into a new system without proper preparation, we might find that slowing down the calendar didn’t make school any easier, it just made the hurdles higher to jump.

𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐧𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐚𝐫𝐨 𝐍𝐇𝐒 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐄𝐬𝐤𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐚

Matagumpay na nagtapos ang Brigada Eskwela 2026 ng Jaro National High School (JNHS) matapos ang isang linggong sama-samang pagkilos ng mga g**o, mag-aaral, magulang, alumni, stakeholder, at mga boluntaryo upang ihanda ang paaralan para sa pagbubukas ng taong panuruan 2026–2027.

Bilang bahagi ng huling araw ng Brigada Eskwela, isang Banal na Misa ang idinaos alas-8:00 ng umaga na pinangunahan ni Very Rev. Fr. Jose Alberto Guillen. Nagsilbi itong pagkakataon upang magpasalamat sa matagumpay na pagsasagawa ng programa at hingin ang gabay ng Diyos para sa nalalapit na pagbubukas ng klase.

Matapos ang misa, agad na nilinis at iniligpit ang mga booth ng iba’t ibang departamento na ipinakita mula noong araw ng Brigada Eskwela. Ang mga ito ay maayos na binaklas at inihanda upang bigyang-daan ang pag-aayos ng mga pasilidad para sa nalalapit na pagbubukas ng klase.

Kasunod nito, sama-samang inayos at nilinis ng mga boluntaryo ang covered gymnasium ng paaralan. Inalis at inayos ang mga upuan at iba pang kagamitan bilang paghahanda sa pagsisimula ng mga klase sa darating na pasukan.

Nakiisa rin sa gawain ang ilang mga pribadong katuwang ng paaralan, kabilang ang Savemore, na naglaan ng oras at lakas upang tumulong sa paglilinis at paghahanda ng mga pasilidad ng paaralan. Ang kanilang pakikibahagi ay patunay ng patuloy na suporta ng iba't ibang sektor sa mga programa ng edukasyon.

Sa loob ng limang araw, nagsagawa ang mga kalahok ng iba't ibang gawain tulad ng paglilinis ng mga silid-aralan, pagkukumpuni ng mga pasilidad, pag-aayos ng mga kagamitan, at pagpapaganda ng kapaligiran ng paaralan. Sa kabila ng pagod at sunod-sunod na mga gawain, nanatiling matatag at masigasig ang mga boluntaryo sa pagtupad ng kanilang tungkulin.

Sa isang panayam, ibinahagi ng SSLG President ang kaniyang pasasalamat sa lahat ng naging bahagi ng Brigada Eskwela.

"Isang mahirap ngunit makabuluhang linggo ito dahil napakaraming kailangang gawin mula umpisa hanggang huli. Nakakapagod ang bawat araw, ngunit labis ang aking pasasalamat sa lahat ng mga boluntaryo, mag-aaral, at stakeholder na naglaan ng oras at lakas upang tumulong. Higit sa lahat, nagpapasalamat ako sa aking mga kapwa SSLG officers na naglingkod nang buong puso at walang hinihintay na kapalit."

Binigyang-diin din niya na ang tagumpay ng Brigada Eskwela ay bunga ng sama-samang pagkilos ng buong komunidad ng paaralan at hindi lamang ng iilang tao.

"Bilang mga lider at huwaran, nais naming ipabatid sa lahat na hindi lamang kami ang handa para sa inyo. Ang buong Jaro National High School ang handa para sa inyong pagbabalik."

Sa pagtatapos ng Brigada Eskwela 2026, muling napatunayan na sa pamamagitan ng bayanihan, pagkakaisa, at bolunterismo, nagiging posible ang paglikha ng isang ligtas, malinis, at handang paaralan para sa bawat batang Salognon.
