𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝: 𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐈𝐒𝐀𝐓 𝐔 𝐒𝐂 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | MORNING SESSION

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers - Iloilo Science and Technology Student Council (PICE-ISATU SC) conducted its annual Leadership Training with the theme, "Laying Foundations, Elevating Leaders: Shaping Characters that Build for Greater Heights", held at ISAT U-SSB Hall on September 19.

The event was formally welcomed by Engr. Al Joevid Mirasol, Head of the ISAT U Civil Engineering Department, through a video presentation. Following the welcome message, Mikaela Lusaya, PICE-ISATU SC Director, introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Alma Mae S. Torremoro, RMT, PhD.

Then, Dr. Torremoro discussed that leadership means including, not excluding, emphasizing that inclusivity is an essential part of effective leadership for promoting better collaboration and more diverse and creative solutions.

"𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘥, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘦,” Dr. Torremoro said.

She also discussed Gender and Development, including the appropriate and respectful use of language when addressing people and recognizing differences in gender and identity.

After the talk, participants took part in an engaging activity called “Meron Din Naman Palang Ganda ang Kulay.” They exchanged coloring materials with one another to complete their drawings. The activity encouraged interaction and helped participants get to know each other in a fun and creative way.

Furthermore, the training served as an avenue for fellowship, personal growth, and leadership development. It aims to hone future leaders, strengthen camaraderie among its members, and uphold the organization’s commitment to integrity, inclusivity, and service as it moves toward greater heights.

From the world of Civil Engineering to Farm Youth leadership, our very own Ms. Jana Sofia Lamparero (BSCE 4B), former Director of PICE-ISAT U SC for Academic Year 2025-2026, continues to show that there is more to being an engineer than building structures.

The PICE ISAT U Student Chapter proudly congratulates Jana for being crowned Ms. 4-H Club Iloilo Province — HANDS 2026 during the 73rd 4-H Club Farm Youth Provincial Achievement Day, held on September 19–20, 2026, in Cabatuan, Iloilo.

A huge congratulations as well to Christian Jaud (BSA 5A) for being named Mr. 4-H Club Iloilo Province — HEART 2026!

With this year’s theme, LIKHA “Leveraging Innovative Knowledge for Holistic Agriculture,” the celebration brought together young agricultural leaders from across the province in a gathering that highlighted achievement, knowledge, culture, friendship, and the future of the farming community.

And among them stood a fourth-year Civil Engineering student, showing that the skills of an engineer can extend far beyond the classroom, from technical knowledge to leadership, confidence, and community involvement.

𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆.

𝐀 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇.

Today, September 21, marks the 𝟱𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 of Proclamation No. 1081, signed by then-President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. on September 21, 1972, placing the entire Philippines under Martial Law. The proclamation was publicly announced on September 23, 1972.

The declaration and the authoritarian rule that followed brought widespread restrictions on civil liberties, including media censorship, the closure or control of news organizations, curfews, arrests and detention, and the suppression of freedom of speech, assembly, and the press. The period was also marked by well-documented human-rights violations, including torture, enforced disappearance, summary ex*****on, and other forms of political repression.

More than five decades later, we continue to remember 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙙.

May the darkness of our past guide us toward a better light. May the courage and sacrifices of those who resisted oppression inspire us to defend truth, human rights, freedom, and justice for future generations.
