𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 — 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞.

As the 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 reached its resolution, honoring the 𝟒𝟗 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 of 𝐈𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 – 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬, the testimonies of our engineers were given emphasis — serving as both a guide and inspiration to aspiring future takers.

Held last April 30, 2026, the gathering became a reflection of the dedication, perseverance, and patience that carried our engineers through every challenge laid before them throughout their journey. This event stands not only as a testament to what they have achieved, but also to the sacrifices, sleepless nights, and unwavering determination that led them toward the profession they now proudly bear.

Their stories remind us that success is never instant — it is built through courage, discipline, and the choice to continue despite uncertainty.

Iloilo Science and Technology University, in collaboration with the Philippine College of Physicians - Iloilo Chapter, Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, Inc. Last May 2, we officially concluded our webinar, “From Campus to Career: Building Professional Foundations in the AI Era and the Responsible Use of AI in Research.” Through the valuable insights shared by our esteemed speakers, 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐉𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐚-𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞 and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐂. 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐣𝐨𝐧, 𝐉𝐫., we were guided on what it truly means to be future-ready in the age of AI.

In an era where artificial intelligence continues to transform both education and the workforce, one message stood clear: 𝘼𝙄 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙡—𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩.

From understanding AI systems, risks, and governance frameworks like EUREKA (Ethical, Understandable, Responsible, Equitable, Knowledge-based, Accountable AI), to reflecting on the lesson of “The Blind Men and the Elephant,” we are reminded that true expertise comes from deep understanding—not surface-level reliance.

The discussion also highlighted pressing concerns such as AI hallucinations, fabricated references in research, risks to academic integrity, and the growing environmental impact of AI systems, reinforcing the need for critical skepticism, responsible use, and alignment with institutional policies.

As emphasized during the session, we must treat AI not as a shortcut, but as a “bicycle for the mind”—a tool that enhances thinking, not replaces it.

As DOST scholars, we are called to take this a step further—not only to use AI responsibly, but to bridge research, policy, and public good, ensuring that the knowledge we create and the technologies we adopt truly serve society.

Let this be our takeaway:
