𝗢𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

January 12, 2022 – The Department of Education (DepEd) would like to reiterate that Philippine history is being taught in the K to 12 curriculum of basic education.

Contrary to recurring misleading and reckless claims, the current DepEd administration, led by Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, did not remove Philippine history from the curriculum.

The current version of the Araling Panlipunan (AP) for K to 12 Curriculum was issued in May 2013, following the enactment of Republic Act No. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 of the last administration. This was before the assumption to office of the present Secretary of Education in July 2016.

The current AP curriculum covers various Philippine history topics across grade levels. These topics also serve as take-off points in all discussions relative to Asian Studies, World History, Economics, and Contemporary Issues in Junior High School and Understanding Culture, Society and Politics, and Philippine Politics and Governance in Senior High School. Generally, it is highly impossible to discuss the said subjects without even taking into consideration the Philippine historical context.

In addition, Philippine history competencies found in the curriculum are covered by textbooks and other learning resources distributed to learners. Philippine history and identity are also analyzed and explored through the lens of Philippine Literature both in English and Filipino. Contemporary topics, meanwhile, are being discussed in the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) subject.

In 2019, through DepEd Order No. 21, s. 2019, the Department integrated pre-existing policies and guidelines on K to 12 program while providing a reference point for ongoing and future review of any of the curriculum’s components.

As one of the vanguards of the nation’s culture, the Department of Education (DepEd) will not allow our learners to be robbed of the opportunity to discover our rich heritage. We also call on our stakeholders to be responsible and vigilant against misinformation at this time.

The stories of inspiring Filipino people and monumental Philippine events will continue to be ingrained in our books and during our classroom and blended learning discussions for years to come.

Enero 12, 2022 – Nais muling ipahayag ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon (DepEd) na itinuturo ang kasaysayan ng Pilipinas sa K to 12 curriculum ng pangunahing edukasyon.

Taliwas sa mga lumalabas na mali at walang ingat na pahayag, ang kasalukuyang administrasyon ng DepEd, na pinangungunahan ni Kalihim Leonor Magtolis Briones, ay hindi tinanggal ang kasaysayan ng Pilipinas mula sa kurikulum.

Ang kasalukuyang bersiyon ng Araling Panlipunan (AP) ay inilabas para sa K to 12 Curriculum noong Mayo 2013, bilang pagsunod sa pagpapatupad ng Republic Act No. 10533 o ang Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 ng nakaraang administrasyon. Ito ay bago pa man maluklok sa puwesto ng tanggapan ang kasalukuyang Kalihim ng Edukasyon noong Hulyo 2016.

Sakop ng kasalukuyang AP curriculum ang iba’t ibang paksa sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas sa lahat ng baitang. Ang mga paksang ito ay nagsisilbi rin na panimulang paksa sa lahat ng mga talakayan kaugnay sa Asian Studies, World History, Economics, at Contemporary Issues sa Junior High School at Understanding Culture, Society and Politics, at Philippine Politics and Governance sa Senior High School. Sa pangkahalatan, imposibleng talakayin ang mga nasabing paksa nang hindi isinasaalang-alang ang konteksto ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas.

Dagdag dito, ang mga competencies sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas na matatagpuan sa kurikulum ay nasasakop ng mga textbooks at iba pang mga learning resources na ipinamamahagi sa mga mag-aaral. Inaalisa at sinasaliksik din ang kasaysayan at pagkakakilanlan ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng pananaw sa Philippine Literature sa Ingles at Pilipino. Samantala, ang mga kontemporaryong paksa ay tinatalakay sa asignaturang Media and Information Literacy (MIL).

Noong 2019, sa bisa ng DepEd Order No. 21, s. 2019, isinama ng Kagawaran ang mga umiiral na polisiya at mga alituntunin sa programa ng K to 12 habang nagbibigay ng batayan para sa patuloy at pang-hinaharap na pagsusuri ng alinmang bahagi ng kurikulum.

Bilang isa sa mga puno sa kultura ng bansa, hindi pahihintulutan ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon (DepEd) na mawalan ang ating mga mag-aaral ng oportunidad na matuklasan ang ating mayamang pamana. Nananawagan din kami sa aming mga stakeholders na maging responsable at mapagmatyag laban sa mga maling impormasyon sa panahong ito.

Ang mga kuwento ng Pilipinong nagbibigay inspirasyon at mga makasaysayang pangyayari sa Pilipinas ay patuloy na nakapaloob sa ating mga libro at sa ating silid-aralan at sa mga talakayan sa blended learning sa darating pang mga taon.
