Four years in, the WVSU Film Society continues to serve as an avenue for students to practice the craft of cinema. Beyond the films weโ€™ve set into motion, our greatest work has always been the space we build. From nurturing young minds through workshops, creative exchanges, industry mentorships, and real opportunities for collaboration.

Two films from West Visayas State University community are set to take the screen at the University of the Philippines Visayasโ€™ CineMatahum, bringing local stories and perspectives to the regionโ€™s annual celebration of Visayan cinema.

๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜†-๐—ผ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ธ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ผ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป, directed by WVSU-COC alumna Arcel Vinz Agudo, is among the films selected for this yearโ€™s festival. The documentary previously won Best Documentary Film at the Patubas Documentary Film Festival and was recently aired on Knowledge Channel.

The film now reaches the screens of CineMatahum under the ๐—–๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜„๐—ฎ (https://www.facebook.com/share/18WjTF6rVA/) category, a non-competitive film screening that showcases works by community-based filmmakers and highlights stories rooted in collective experiences and local realities.

Meanwhile, ๐—”๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ, directed by Timothy James Sampang, makes its way to CineMatahum after previously competing in WVSU University Days 2026. The film earned multiple awards during the event, including the coveted Best Picture award.

The film is under the ๐—–๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ (https://www.facebook.com/share/1Deca2GeU9/) category, which brings together student filmmakers from across Western Visayas.

Last August 28, the WVSU Film Society officers gathered at Taohay Center for a Sensitivity Training session led by WVSU-COC alumnus, Jan Lyod Abellano.

Treating organizational leadership like a strategic card game, the session focused on purposeful leadershipโ€”guiding the team to understand member capacities, embrace individual roles, and strengthen collaboration.

It served as a grounding first step toward leading with shared purpose for the upcoming academic year.๐ŸŽฌ
