The West Visayas State Universityโ€“Association of Student Assistants (WVSU-ASA) successfully secured the long-awaited salary increase during the Board of Regents meeting held at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Central Office on October 10, 2025.

The proposal for the WVSU Student Assistantsโ€™ salary increase was first drafted in October 2024. Four months of revision later, the document was submitted to the Local Finance Committee and subsequently forwarded to the Administrative Council (ADCO), where it was deliberated twice before achieving its hard-fought approval from the Board of Regents.

This accomplishment echoes not only the success of the student assistants but also the collective triumph built upon the shared vision and dedication of the 2024 WVSU-ASA Officers who meticulously formulated, revised, and processed the proposal that laid the groundwork for this achievementโ€”in particular, Kaycee Renz Buenasalbas, Aiko Deocades, and Bernadith Mae Elbanbuenaโ€”together with their Adviser, Dr. Antoniette D. Cortez, Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Ma. Pilar Malata, and OSA staff Ms. Jhen Ferrer.

Their leadership and collaborationโ€”fortified by the support of the rest of the ASA officers and the University Student Councilโ€”transformed what was once an ambitious dream into a laborious proposal and, ultimately, into a tangible accomplishment that stands as a testament to the associationโ€™s enduring mantra: Labor is an Honor, Always.

To our beloved student assistant graduates, this moment is yours, and you have truly earned it.

Today, we celebrate more than just academic achievement. We honor the strength, commitment, and perseverance that you have shown throughout your journey. Behind every task accomplished, every hour rendered, and every challenge overcome was a student who remained determined to grow, serve, and succeed.

You carried the responsibilities of work and academics with humility and heart. You have been an integral part of the universityโ€™s daily rhythmโ€”quietly contributing, making things happen, and supporting othersโ€”often without expecting recognition in return.

Now, it is our time to shine the light on you.

Your hard work has paid off.
Your sacrifices were not in vain.
Your growth has been nothing short of inspiring.

As you close this chapter and begin a new one, take with you the values youโ€™ve embracedโ€”the integrity, the discipline, and the purpose that guided you through your time as a student assistant.

We are immensely proud of each of you. You will always be part of the heart of this institution.

The first-ever Student Assistants' Day began not just with excitement but with enlightenment. OSA Dean Ma. Pilar Malata graced us with her wisdom, shedding light on the essence of leadership and communicationโ€”a reminder that beyond our daily tasks, we are leaders in our own right, shaping our futures with every step we take.

Following this, we were honored to hear Prof. Frank Bebitโ€™s Kwentong ASA Talk, a heartfelt sharing of his journey as a student assistant. His story resonated with all of usโ€”reminding us that every hardship, every sleepless night, and every moment of struggle leads to a future built on perseverance and grit. From a student assistant to a respected professor, his journey was proof that our sacrifices today will shape the successes of tomorrow.

But of course, Student Assistants' Day wasnโ€™t just about reflectionโ€”it was about celebration, fun, and reliving the simple joys of being a student. The Laro ng Lahi segment was a nostalgic throwback to childhood, where SAs put their teamwork, agility, and competitive spirit to the test.

๐Ÿ”ฅ The games were intense and filled with laughter:
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Chinese Garter had our SAs stretching their limitsโ€”literally!
๐Ÿ’ƒ Trip to Jerusalem turned into a battle of wits and quick reflexes.
๐Ÿ•บ Paper Dance tested their balance, bringing pairs closerโ€”quite literally!
๐Ÿ‘ฃ Kadang-Kadang was a test of coordination, requiring a steady rhythm and determination to win.

Through every game, there were loud cheers, high-fives, and the undeniable spirit of unity. It was more than just a competitionโ€”it was a reminder that despite our responsibilities, we are still young, capable of laughter, of play, and of forging connections beyond our work.

Teamn Manug-Profile & Manug-Route emerged as the overall champions, proving their strength and teamwork throughout the games. But in the end, it wasnโ€™t just about winningโ€”it was about embracing the moment, celebrating our hard work, and reminding ourselves that being a student assistant is not just about duty, but also about growth, friendships, and finding joy even in the busiest of days.

Truly, Labor is an Honor!
