Last week was a moment that reflected excellence and dedication.

Last Saturday, March 7, 2026, two of our most outstanding BS Biology students, Lauritschen Recabar and Niña Marie Fisga, took on the challenge at the 20th BIOTA–Western Visayas Regional Quiz Bowl held at West Visayas State University. Among the 20 participants, their intellect and tenacity earned them 4th place. With the support and guidance of Mr. Rhyxy Anthony Mamon and Ms. Ronna Mae Queme, the WIT BS Biology Department continues to reach greater heights.

📸 LOOK! BS Biology faculty members Mr. Rhyxy Anthony G. Mamon, Ms. Ronna Mae C. Queme, and Mr. John Benedict C. Peñas from the Department of Sciences, Western Institute of Technology, participated in the 25th Philippine Network of Microbial Culture Collections (PNMCC) Annual Symposium and General Assembly with the theme “Cultivating Diversity in the Hidden World of Fungi, Bacteria, and Viruses.”

All three faculty members, who teach Microbiology courses in the BS Biology program, proudly represented the institution at this significant scientific gathering held at the University Theater, Trinity University of Asia, on September 20, 2025.

The event aimed to bring together microbiologists, researchers, and educators to share new discoveries and insights in the fields of fungi, bacteria, and viruses. It sought to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among professionals to advance microbiological research and education in the Philippines. Additionally, the symposium aimed to cultivate awareness of microbial diversity and its vital role in health, environment, and biotechnology.
