Today is World Autism Awareness Day đ
But awareness is just the beginning.
At Little Learners Initiative, we believe in something deeper â acceptance, understanding, and empowerment.
Autism is not something to be âfixed.â
It is a different way of experiencing the world.
Some of our learners may not speak yetâŚ
Some may flap, run, or repeat behaviorsâŚ
Some may struggle with change, noise, or social cuesâŚ
But every single one of them is learning, communicating, and trying in their own way.
And that deserves respect.
đ¸Instead of asking âHow do we make them fit in?â
Letâs ask: âHow do we create spaces where they belong?â
đ¸Instead of focusing on limitations,
Letâs build on their strengths, interests, and joy.
đ¸Instead of forcing conformity,
Letâs support connection and understanding.
This is why we do what we do â
To create a community where every child feels safe, seen, and valued.
đ Today, we celebrate neurodiversity.
đ Today, we choose inclusion.
đ Today, we stand with every autistic child and their family.

đWhy Some Children Keep Checking for Mom During Classđ
Have you ever noticed a child who keeps going back to reception to check if Mommy or Daddy is still there?
This isnât misbehavior.
This is called proximity monitoring â a normal phase of attachment regulation.
According to attachment theory (introduced by John Bowlby), children go through stages when learning to separate from their caregivers.
Hereâs how it usually looks:
đś 1. Protest Phase
Crying, clinging, refusing to enter the room.
đŞ 2. Proximity Monitoring Phase
The child separates â but checks repeatedly to make sure their caregiver is still there.
đą 3. Transitional Regulation Phase
Longer play periods. Fewer checks. The child begins trusting the teacher as a safe adult.
đ 4. Internalized Secure Base
The child confidently says, âMom will come back later,â and participates fully.
Checking behavior is not defiance.
Itâs the childâs nervous system asking,
âAm I still safe?â
At Little Learners Initiative, we donât rush this process.
We donât force independence.
We build it â gently, consistently, and relationally.
Because true confidence doesnât come from removing the parent quickly.
It comes from helping the child internalize safety.
If your child struggles with separation, know this:
Itâs not a problem to fix. Itâs a process to support.

Some parents come into our lives quietly⌠and leave a lasting mark. đ§Ą
We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to one of our amazing parents who recently shared such kind and encouraging feedback about her experience with us at Little Learners Initiative.
Your words meant more than you know. In the middle of busy days and challenging moments, itâs messages like yours that remind us why we do what we do.
We also want to honor the effort your family made â traveling such a long distance just to give your child the support they needed. That kind of commitment, love, and dedication does not go unnoticed.
While we will truly miss having you with us, we completely understand your decision to move to a center closer to home. At the end of the day, what matters most is that your child continues to receive the support they deserve.
Thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey, even for a short time. You will always be part of our Little Learners family. đ¤
Wishing you and your child continued growth, joy, and success wherever you go.
