Garnering the majority of votes among the presidentiables from the esteemed Board of Regents, Dr. Posadas was officially declared the 3rd University President, succeeding the outgoing President, Dr. Aladino C. Moraca.

As Dr. Posadas officially starts her presidency on September 29, 2026, the CPSU community wholeheartedly congratulates and warmly welcomes our first female University President for accepting the challenge of leading the institution to higher heights and broader horizons.

A mud crab or mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) enterprise in southern Negros Occidental that nearly collapsed due to weather-related concerns is getting a second chance through a low-cost farming technology designed to withstand the growing impacts of climate change.

An entrepreneurs' association in Purok Cordova, Barangay Bocana, Ilog, Negros Occidental is reviving its "mangrove crab" or "mud crab" fattening enterprise after a series of setbacks, with the help of a climate-resilient and low-cost technology developed by Central Philippines State University (CPSU).

The group, composed of former beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), received livelihood assistance through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) in June 2023 and established a seafood bagsakan, capitalizing on the community's rich marine resources.

In 2024, the association expanded into mangrove crab fattening but encountered challenges after adverse weather conditions damaged its facilities and disrupted operations.

In 2025, CPSU, in partnership with the Office of Negros Occidental 6th District Representative Mercedes Alvarez, the Local Government Unit of Ilog, and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), introduced a vertical crab farming technology designed to help the association recover from these challenges.

The system uses recyclable materials, costs about 40 to 50 percent less than commercially available technologies, and is more resilient to calamities.

The technology features 48 individual cages, allowing mud crabs to be fattened separately over several weeks. Unlike traditional crab-fattening methods that rely on cages installed in brackish river waters, the system is housed under a shaded structure and utilizes a submersible water pump that continuously circulates water with a specially prepared mixture designed to provide ideal growing conditions for mud crabs.

The association began using the technology in January 2026, allowing members to restart and strengthen their crab fattening operations while pursuing a more sustainable and climate-adaptive source of livelihood.
