Strengthening internationalization efforts in Region X 🌏✨

The 1st IRON X – CHEDRO X Meeting held last April 28, 2026 at AVR1, Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro, gathered internationalization leaders and representatives from various Higher Education Institutions across the region.

The meeting highlighted important discussions on the formulation of IRON X bylaws, updates on CHED Region X internationalization initiatives, institutional best practices, capacity building on internationalization, and scholarly opportunities with Taiwanese universities.

We are honored to have contributed to the discussion on “Scholarly Opportunities with Taiwanese Universities” through the presentation of the INTACT Base Staff of MSU-IIT.

Personnel from Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) joined the International Industrial Talents Education Special (INTENSE) Program Education Fair at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on April 13, 2026.

The event, directed by the Taiwan Ministry of Education, was organized by National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Kun Shan University (KSU), and Cheng Shiu University (CSU), and co-organized by Bulacan State University (BulSU).

Leading the MSU-IIT delegation was Prof. Joey Genevieve T. Martinez, DSc, Vice Chancellor for International Affairs and Assistant Project Leader of the INTACT Base – MSU-IIT Mindanao Hub Office. Representing the College of Engineering were Dean Jefferson A. Hora, Ph.D.; Assistant Dean Gevelyn B. Itao; Department of Electronics Engineering (DECE) Chairperson Gene Fe P. Palencia; and 4th-year BS Metallurgical Engineering LIPGI Ambassador Dale Francis Cabigas. Also present were faculty members from various colleges, including College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) Dean Mylene M. Uy.

The Education Fair showcased universities involved in implementing the INTENSE Program, an initiative of the Taiwan Ministry of Education that offers postgraduate scholarships across various academic pathways and opens career opportunities in Taiwan. The program aims to encourage students and educators to advance their skills and pursue opportunities on the international stage.

The 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗜𝗜 (CHEDRO III) took part in the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗘) Fair in the Philippines, held on April 13, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Organized by 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 and the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆–𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗮 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 – 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲 and , the event supports Taiwan’s Ministry of Education initiative to strengthen international talent development and academic cooperation between Taiwan and the Philippines.

Representing CHEDRO III were 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗦. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶 𝗜, Education Supervisor II and Internationalization Focal Person, and 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦. 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘇, Transnational Higher Education Officer, on behalf of 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗩 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗. 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹, 𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗢 𝗜𝗜𝗜. The CHED International Affairs Service (IAS) was represented by 𝗠𝗿. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀, Project Technical Staff II, on behalf of 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗩 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿-𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗿. Also present were 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗠. 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼, CLAIRO President and Pampanga State University IRO, Bulacan State University President 𝗗𝗿. 𝗧𝗲𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀, National Chung Hsing University Vice President 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗖𝗵𝗶-𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘂, and officials from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices in the Philippines and Vietnam, alongside leaders of international industry–academia programs.

Centered on the theme “𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗻: 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀,” the event featured an opening ceremony, networking luncheon, and afternoon sessions that included university presentations, exhibitions, and an education fair showcasing Taiwan’s academic programs and industry-linked initiatives.

This initiative aligns with the Commission’s 𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗘𝗩𝗘 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 under the leadership of CHED Chairperson 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗖. 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗶𝘀, particularly on 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, by promoting accessible global opportunities and ensuring that international engagements translate into tangible benefits for Philippine higher education.

Participation in the INTENSE Program Fair reinforces the region’s commitment to internationalization by building strategic partnerships with Taiwan universities and industry stakeholders. These collaborations are expected to expand opportunities for student and faculty mobility, scholarships, and joint research, while strengthening industry-academe linkages.
