The School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS), Mindanao State University Iligan Institute of Technology, conducted its ๐๐๐ ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง for the 1st Semester of AY 2026โ2027 on August 29, 2026, at the University Amphitheater, welcoming 70 first year students. Conducted through a hybrid modality, the orientation introduced new students to SIS, its academic programs, learning environment, and the opportunities and responsibilities of becoming part of the SIS community.
As an interdisciplinary academic unit, SIS brings together graduate programs in ๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ, ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ (๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐น๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐ฝ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฒ๐), ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ, creating a learning environment where diverse disciplines and perspectives converge around contemporary environmental, sustainability, technological, and societal concerns.
As part of its commitment to developing an inclusive and gender responsive academic community, SIS also conducted its ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ (๐๐๐) ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง in partnership with the Gender and Development Center (GADC) of MSU IIT on the same day at the University Amphitheater.
The GAD Orientation brought together graduate students and provided a platform for deeper understanding of GAD concepts and mandates, gender mainstreaming, sexual harassment and gender based sexual harassment laws, reporting mechanisms, complainant protection, CODI procedures, and shared responsibility in creating safe and gender responsive academic spaces.
The activity also demonstrated meaningful learning gains, with participants' overall mean performance increasing from 88.93% in the pre test to 96.40% in the post test across the 15 assessment areas.
Together, the SIS Student Orientation and the 1st GAD Orientation reflect the School's continuing commitment to building an inclusive interdisciplinary community where academic excellence is complemented by respect, equality, accountability, participation, and shared responsibility.
