Sa sulod sa Iligan Central School, anaa ang usa ka karaang kanyon nga halos malabyan ra sa kadaghanan—apan kini usa sa pipila na lang ka konkretong pahinumdom sa presensyang militar sa Espanya sa Iligan.

Gikan pa sa ika-17 hangtod ika-19 nga siglo (1600s–1800s), ang Iligan usa ka estratehikong dapit sa amihanang Mindanao. Sa 1832, opisyal nga gitukod ang Iligan isip pueblo, ug sa maong panahon, ang mga kanyon sama niini gigamit sa pagpanalipod sa poblacion, pantalan, ug mga administratibong sentro batok sa pag-atake ug kagubot.

Kini mao ang parehas nga mga armas nga kaniadto nagbantay sa entrada sa maong lugar—usa ka ehemplo sa gahum ug kontrol sa kolonyal nga rehimen sa Espanya. Dili kini dekorasyon; kini mga sandata sa gubat, simbolo sa awtoridad, ug pahimangno sa pagsukol.
