21st Capping, Badge Investiture, and Candle Lighting Ceremonies
College of Health Sciences | August 24, 2026
Tomorrow, the 156 student nurses of Batch Avelora will take a monumental step forward in their nursing journey. Thoughtfully blending the Latin avฤre (โto long forโ) and elora (โGod is my lightโ), their batch name reflects a shared and earnest desire to be a guiding light for others.
Knowing that patients will meet them during moments of vulnerability and fear, Batch Avelora has embraced a solemn vow: to meet that darkness with steady comfort, hope, and healing. For these 156 future nurses, their education is far more than a career pathโit is a deeply purposeful mission to serve humanity.
As they receive their caps, badges, and light their candles, they anchor this sacred milestone to their signet song, "I See the Light" from Disney's Tangledโa poetic reflection of finding clarity, hope, and direction as they step into their true calling.

21st Capping, Badge Investiture, and Candle Lighting Ceremonies
College of Health Sciences | August 24, 2026
In keeping with the proud tradition of the College of Health Sciences, the honor of carrying the lamp is awarded to the senior Nursing student with the highest academic standing. This year, Level IV BS Nursing Student Mr. Prince Chan R. Florendo earns this distinction as Batch Curatio Lucisโ Nightingale (2027). While the role is traditionally held by female nursing students, Mr. Florendo proudly stands as only the third male Lamp Bearer in the college's history.
A time-honored icon of care, compassion, and commitment, the lamp rekindles the legacy of Florence Nightingale, representing the beacon of hope a nurse becomes for patients in their darkest hours. Fittingly, this yearโs bearer draws inspiration from St. Camillus de Lellisโthe patron saint of nurses and one of the first recognized male nursesโwhose life exemplified courage and selfless devotion to the sick and suffering.
For our candidates, the ceremonial lighting of the lamp marks a solemn commitment to their education and chosen calling. It signifies the start of a lifelong journey where their sense of responsibility and wholehearted kindness will transform lives.
