The Department of Political Science and Department of English will be hosting the 𝑱𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝑳𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒖𝒎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑺𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 on 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the College of Engineering Amphitheater. In partnership with the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines–Diliman and the Japan Foundation, Manila, the event aims to bring Japanese Studies to Mindanao and explore potential collaborations with both Institutions.

This two-day workshop is hosted by the 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐧, and supported by the Japan Foundation, Manila is an incredible opportunity to learn, collaborate, and grow in the field of Japanese studies!

The BA in English Language Studies (BAELS) program of MSU-IIT was among the four programs of the College of Arts and Social Sciences that successfully met the rigorous international criteria set by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA).

This recognition came as a result of the actual assessment on August 5-6, 2025, which makes MSU-IIT the first State University to be awarded AUN-QA Certification—another historic milestone for the Dakilang Pamantasan.

BAELS garnered 5 points in three areas: Programme Structure & Content, Academic Staff, and Output & Outcomes, which catapults the program into the spotlight of academic excellence. Congratulations to MSU-IIT and to all the programs of CASS for reaching this remarkable height!

𝗠𝗦𝗨-𝗜𝗜𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗦 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗨𝗡-𝗤𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

As part of efforts to enhance and align educational quality through continuous improvement and mutual recognition of academic programs, four degree programs under the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) underwent the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Programme Assessment on August 5, 2025, at Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology.

The assessed programs include BA Filipino, BA English Language Studies, BA Sociology, and BA Political Science.

The AUN-QA followed a framework in advancing a quality assurance system to uphold and enhance teaching, research and academic standards across AUN member universities. They have done this through recommending areas for improvement on evidence-based methods, where approaches are shared, assessed, and refined.

As part of its 453rd AUN-QA assessment, MSU-IIT welcomed visiting assessors for an on-site evaluation. Assigned to the Filipino program were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ornsiri Cheunsuang and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamimah Ujir; for English Language Studies, Dr. Wan Ahmad Kamil, FASc, FMIC, and Assoc. Prof. Pakpong Pochanart; for Sociology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Tuan and Prof. Dr. Yetty Komalasari Dewi; and for Political Science, Prof. Dr. Irfan Naufal Umar and Dr. Porngarm Virutamasen, SFHEA.

Initially, the aforementioned departments prepared and submitted a Self-Assessment Report (SAR) using the AUN-QA criteria. This report included evidence on teaching, curriculum, learning outcomes, faculty qualifications, facilities, and support services, among others.

To validate evidence provided in the SAR, assessors conducted an ocular inspection within the campus along with interviews with students, key faculty members, and support staff.

Today, August 6, assessors are set to meet with employers and alumni for an interview through a hybrid set-up to evaluate the relevance and impact of the academic programs beyond the classroom.

This makes CASS the first college in the entire MSU System to go through the regional program assessment anchored on international standards.

🪶 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒚𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈.

The Department of English witnessed this very first graduates of the 𝑩𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔 carve meaning out of uncertainty. They questioned loudly, made space for slow thinking, and stayed long enough for those questions to change them. They went through the throes of a program still defining itself, and found clarity in staying present through the mess of it.

These students paved the road as they walked it. They became the working definitions and the proof of concept.

And so we pay tribute to them, who now carry with them stories only they could have shaped. Not so much for having followed the straight and narrow, but for having had the courage to set foot where none had been drawn before.

To prepare the 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐀 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 for their on-the-job training (OJT) practicum, the Department of English conducted a 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 on June 10, 2025 at the University Mini-theater. The OJT is an important component of the program since it bridges the gap between theory and practice, between abstract knowledge to more practical and utilitarian use of the competencies of the students.

Serving as resource persons of the Orientation are faculty members of the English Department, 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐭. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐣𝐚 who talked on the topic “Office Decorum and Etiquette: Enhancing Soft Skills and 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐭. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐑𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐳 who discussed “Effective Communication in Workplaces”. 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐚 𝐋. 𝐃𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 of the Biological Sciences Department impressed upon the interns the importance of knowing “How to Handle Sexual Advances and Unethical Favors in Workplaces”.

𝐃𝐫. 𝐍𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐆. 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐠𝐨𝐚, the OJT Coordinator of the BALCS program reinforced these topics by discussing the “Internship Guidelines and Milestones”.

The 𝟔𝟑 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 in LCS 197 (OJT and Practicum) will be deployed to various government offices, academic institutions and industries in the cities of Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, Cebu and Manila.

We wish all our interns the best of luck in this milestone of their academic journey.
