TAINAN CITY, Taiwan โ€” Princess April Castillo, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Applications (BSCA) student from Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), has been officially admitted into the 2026 Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP). The two-month international research immersion is scheduled from July 24 to September 23, 2026, hosted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kun Shan University (KSU) in Tainan City, Taiwan. Her work will involve hands-on CNC machining training, Industrial IoT data acquisition, signal processing, and the application of machine learning algorithms to predict tool wear, culminating in an immersion report and a final presentation.

Under the direct supervision of Dr. Hsiao-Yeh Chu, Director of KSUโ€™s Micro & Precision Manufacturing Center, Castillo will participate in advanced research titled "Development and Verification of a Multi-Tool Wear Prediction System for CNC Machining Processes Based on Current Monitoring and Industrial IoT". Her work will involve hands-on CNC machining training, Industrial IoT data acquisition, signal processing, and the application of machine learning algorithms to predict tool wear, culminating in an immersion report and a final presentation.

For Castillo, the internship represents a significant milestone in bridging academic foundations with cutting-edge industry applications. She expressed that the program is the ultimate test of her undergraduate studies, highlighting how the alignment of concepts broadens her scope from university laboratory experiments to real-world Industrial IoT systems. Looking ahead, she sees this immersive experience in Taiwan as a crucial stepping stone toward pursuing a master's degree in the country.

BUON MA THUOT / DA NANG, Vietnam โ€” Bachelor of Science in Computer Applications student Andrew Earl Andres recently completed the TNU Astronomy Summer School 2026, an intensive two-week program held from July 6 to 17. Hosted jointly by Tay Nguyen University in Buon Ma Thuot and D**g A University in Da Nang, the program brought together select participants for a rigorous immersion into the field of observational astronomy.

Throughout the two weeks, Andres gained valuable practical experience operating a diverse range of optical, solar, and radio telescopes. In addition to direct instrumentation work, the training emphasized observational data science, teaching participants how to process and analyze extensive archived datasets from major international observatoriesโ€”a task where Andres' background in computer applications proved particularly relevant.

Beyond technical data analysis and telescope operation, the curriculum focused on developing well-rounded academic competencies, including scientific writing and research ethics. The program culminated in a collaborative research project where Andres worked alongside peers in a small group to investigate specific astronomical phenomena before presenting their final findings to a jury of expert astronomers.

Andres' successful completion of the program highlights the increasingly vital role that computer science and application skills play in modern, data-driven astronomical research.

ILIGAN CITY โ€” The Department of Computer Applications at the College of Computer Studies, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), recently gathered its fourth-year students for the SOJT 2026 Culmination Day. The event marked the formal registration of their OJT compliance and provided a platform to reflect on their internship experiences.

The 2026 cohort saw students deployed across 21 distinct host organizations spanning private technology companies, local government and public health units, and MSU-IIT's own academic and administrative offices. The majority of the interns were absorbed by the private sector, with MeldCX taking in 10 students and CyTech Development and Operations/CyTech International hosting eight. Intern placements stretched well beyond Iligan City, reaching Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Cavite, Cebu, and even an international remote engagement in the U.S. .

The culmination report served as a vital feedback loop for the department, highlighting both curriculum strengths and areas for improvement. When passing the torch to the incoming batch of fourth-year students, the 2026 cohort emphasized a mindset of humility, initiative, and professionalism. They urged future interns to ask questions early rather than assuming, to step outside their comfort zones when assigned tasks outside their specialization, and to take proactive ownership of their tasks and time logs.
