It was yet another successful and event organized by the 3rd year BA ELS students of MSU-IIT, Department of English, College of Arts and Social Sciences. It was an insightful academic engagement between the speakers and over 200 participants who joined in the 2-part webinar on Trends, and Perspectives in Language Education: Trajectories, Prospects, and Transformative Practices, with Mr. Sean Edgley and Dr. Jayson Parba.

Sean Edgley, our first session speaker, explained the Colonial Legacies to MTB-MLE: a Pedagogy of Progressive, Transformative Practices for Language Education in the Philippines. He shared his perspective on the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education in the Philippines, and its current status in the curriculum. Mr. Edgley also shared his ideas in translanguaging, and how it promotes metalinguistic awareness and sensitivity among the students.

The second session was another interesting and fun-filled learning afternoon with Dr. Jayson Parba as he navigated his discussion on translanguaging and how this promising academic landscape in language helps fuel conversation on multilingualism, code-switching, intercultural communication, and sociocultural inclusivity and how to address some linguistic issues present in the Philippine classrooms. His powerful talk, Exploring the Promises of Translanguaging in English Language Teaching, highlighted the importance of translanguaging as pedagogy and as an instructional tool to help both students and teachers in the teaching and learning process using the codes and the modes that they are most comfortable with when expressing their ideas.

Throughout the day, the organizers and participants witnessed the and how it created an academic involvement for a discourse that opens minds on language teaching and learning.

Thank you for sharing your time with us. We would love to hear your favorite takeaways, learnings, and moments from the two sessions by using on your social media posts.

Hello! Maayong adlaw! Kumusta ka? 👋

As Filipinos, each one of us has a rich linguistic repertoire that enables us to express ourselves and engage in meaningful discourses. The set of skills and knowledge one has of two or more languages should be honored and cultivated especially in the field of language teaching. Thus, the discussion of transformative practices, current trends, and issues in the field is imperative.

Situating conversations about the matter in the “new normal” and ever-globalized world becomes that much more stimulating! But where do we begin to untangle this subject? Fret not, for the upcoming webinar: “Trends and Perspectives in Language Education: Trajectories, Prospects, and Transformative Practices” aims to create a space for such conversation!

Join us this May 20th, in our two-session webinar with Mr. Sean Edgley and Dr. Jayson Parba as we open the discussion on the nuances of language learning with a multilingual mind!

ABEO Playhouse proudly presents Medea: A play in film.

The unforeseen pandemic that struck the world led the entire theater industry to involuntary leave the stage and close the curtains with feelings of uncertainty for the future of stage play. ABEO Playhouse was not an exception from this reality. Months of rehearsals and preparations all led to postponement. Two years ago, when we announced that our shows were "postponed until further notice," we only had hopes that someday we would return to stage.

Now, we are proud to present "Medea: A play in film," a remount of our production from 2020 in the medium of film. This project is fueled by our passion for the craft of stage play and to bring people to appreciate the arts. This also marks the first time in the history of ABEO Playhouse that a recreation of a play is shown in film as an experimental adaptation to the changes of our time.

"Medea: A play in film" will be privately premiered and streamed on YouTube from April 28 to April 30, 2022 (Thursday-Saturday). Our registration is free of charge. Proceed to the link below to register.

While the pandemic remains a threat and hinders us to physically gather our audience, we are hopeful that through this project, the craft of stage play and the legacy of the playhouse will continue to initiate engagements and healthy conversations.
