Casa del Niño Montessori School of Ilagan kicked off its two-day School-Based Press Conference (SBPC) 2026 today, August 8, carrying the theme “Ink and Impact: Driving Positive Change Through the Student Press.”

The opening day featured discussions and writing activities led by invited resource speakers. Sir Darriex Delos Santos discussed Science and Technology and Feature writing, Ma’am Riza Mariano covered News and Sports Writing, while Engr. John David Calagui handled the Television Broadcasting session.

Participants first wrote a news article before proceeding to writing exercises in their respective fields, where they applied the techniques and principles discussed by the speakers.

In her message, Lailanie Paguiligan, School Principal emphasized that students must write with a purpose, which is to tell stories that matter and make a meaningful impact.

“The power of the voice is so vital that we need to know how to put these words together to create a positive impact. These days, it is so easy to express the emotions and opinions we have, but that is not how a real writer does the work or puts thoughts together. It goes through a certain process of discernment.”

The conference aims to strengthen students’ skills in various areas of campus journalism through discussions and practical writing exercises. The sessions provide participants with opportunities to apply journalistic principles and understand the responsibility that comes with producing stories for the school community.

The SBPC will resume tomorrow with the remaining journalistic fields and activities. The two-day conference will culminate in the announcement of winners in each field, recognizing the students’ performance throughout the competition.

Student Leaders Take Oath, Assume Office for New School Year

Newly elected student leaders of Casa Del Niño Montessori School of Ilagan officially assumed office during the school's Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony held on Friday, July 31.

The ceremony brought together officers of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), Supreme Elementary Learner Government (SELG), recognized school clubs, and faculty club. Parents, teachers, administrators, and guests witnessed the event as the officers took their oath of service for the new academic year.

In her keynote message, Dr. Lailanie S. Paguiligan reminded the newly inducted officers that leadership comes with responsibility, emphasizing that it is not a bed of roses. She encouraged the student leaders to be prepared for the challenges that come with their positions and acknowledged the important role of parents in supporting and guiding their children throughout their leadership journey.

Moreover, serving as the inducting officer, Atty. Junmarie Caroline De Leon delivered a heartfelt message on the true essence of leadership. She emphasized that effective leaders are not measured solely by their intelligence or achievements, but by their humility and compassion toward others.

De leon concluded her address by challenging the officers to always choose kindness over recognition.

“Sa bawat pagkakataon na kayo ay binibigyan ng panahon upang mamili sa pagiging mabuti at mahusay, laging piliin ang pagiging mabuti. Sana piliin ninyo ang maging mabuti. Dahil sa huli, ang talino ay hinahangaan natin, pero ang taong may kabutihan kailanman ay hindi nalilimutan.”

“Whenever you are given the opportunity to choose between being good and being excellent, always choose to be good. I hope you always choose kindness. In the end, intelligence may be admired, but a person of genuine goodness is never forgotten.”

The ceremony formally marked the beginning of the officers' term as they assumed their respective positions for the current academic year. The program concluded with the presentation of the newly inducted officers and a commemorative photo session with the SSLG and SELG officers and advisers.

Dear parents,

Teach your children honesty, respect, kindness, discipline, humility, responsibility, and faith. A child with good character will know how to handle success, failure, opportunities, and challenges in life.

A report card shows what they learned in school.
Their character shows what they learned at home.

Parents, don’t just raise smart children — raise good human beings. ❤️
