Noong ika-3 ng Nobyembre taong 2023 ang paaralan ng Esteban Jalandoni National High School sa barangay Baga-as ay opisyal na ginawang "farm school", upang matugunan ang pangagailangan ng mga mag-aaral hindi lamang pang-akademiko kundi maging pang-agrikultura, sa bisa ng batas republika blg. 10618.

Hindi maipagkakaila na lumalaki ang populasyon dito sa ating bansa, ang seguridad sa pagkain ay patuloy na nagiging malaking isyu. Ang farm school ay nagbibigay ng praktikal na pagsasanay sa mga mag-aaral sa iba't ibang aspeto ng pagsasaka, mula sa paghahanda ng lupa, pag-aalaga ng hayop hanggang sa pag-aani ng mga produkto. Sa tulong ng farm school, hindi lamang teorya ang natututunan kundi maging aktwal na pagsasagawa ng gawaing pang-agrikultura.

Maraming mga benepisyo ang naidudulot ng pagiging farm school ng isang paaralan. Una, ang mga mag-aaral ay nakakukuha ng malawak na kaalaman tungkol sa agrikultura na maaaring magamit kung nais nilang magtayo ng isang negosyo na may kinalaman dito.

Pangalawa, ang farm school ay nakatutulong na mapa-unlad ang komunidad sa pamamagitan ng paglikha ng oportunidad sa trabaho at pagpapabuti ng ekonomiya ng bansa.

Ang matatag kurikulum sa ilalim ng batas republika blg. 10533 ay naglalayong ihanda ang mga mag-aaral bilang isang buo at ganap na Pilipinong may kapaki pakinabang hindi lamang pang literasi kundi maging pang-agrikultura.

Gayunpaman, hindi parin sapat ang suporta sa mga farm school sa ating bansa. Kailangan ng mas malaking pondo para sa imprastraktura, kagamitan at programa. Mahalaga rin ang pagsasanay ng mga g**o upang masig**o ang kalidad ng edukasyon na ibinibigay. Ang mga mag-aaral ay kailangan ding bigyan ng sapat na panahon upang matutunan ang kasanayang ito.

Sa huli, ang pagpapa-unlad ng farm school ay isang mabisang hakbang tungo sa pagkamit ng seguridad sa pagkain at pag-unlad ng ating bansa. Kaya't sama-sama nating suportahan, tangkilikin at bigyang halaga ang oportunidad na ito dahil ang pamumuhunan sa farm school ay hindi lamang pamumuhunan sa agrikultura, kundi maging sa ating maayos at matagumpay na kinabukasan.
