Moreno says CdeO quarantine
will remain in effect indefinitely

JUST because Luzon and other areas in the country have started loosening up doesn’t mean Cagayan de Oro would also soften community quarantine measures in the city.

Neither is city hall fixing dates regarding its ongoing general community quarantine measures.

Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar S. Moreno reiterated that the city government will base its moves on the city’s COVID-19 data, government health experts’ advice, and on the guidelines set by the Duterte administration.

He warned against an abrupt resumption of economic activities in the city, saying complacency would compromise public health.

“Dili lang ta magdali-dali. Paaboton lang nato kung unsay final decision sa Manila (government). Kung pananglitan ato na abrihan, we have to be strict in our guidelines on physical distancing, wearing of face masks, etc.,” Mayor Moreno said during the May 1 press briefing at city hall.

While Moreno said he is excited to follow Luzon that is slowly opening up, he said the city government will work to balance public health and economic concerns of the city.

He said, “I want to reassure everybody that we are seriously considering also doing the same thing. But then, we have to do that with due regard sa atong existing health situation. I can’t simply ignore our health situation just because of what others are doing.”

By the time Cagayan de Oro opens up its economy, Moreno said the city government will be stricter in the enforcement of guidelines and measures to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.

In the meantime, Moreno said that Cagayan de Oro will continue to be under general community quarantine, and will set no dates. (Ian Fuentes/CIO)
