News | SLSU-Gumaca PEER Facilitators hosts ‘Kumustahan’ seminar to strengthen student mental health awareness
Southern Luzon State University–Gumaca Campus reinforced its commitment to student well-being as it conducted the Mental Health Seminar titled “Kumustahan with the Guidance Counselors” on April 22, 2026, at the Library Extension, gathering students in a proactive dialogue on mental health, relationships, and responsible decision-making.
Ms. Beatrice Nuñezca opened the program by highlighting the need for safe spaces where students can freely share their experiences and emotions, especially in dealing with personal and relationship concerns.
Guest speaker Ms. Monica De Ocampo, RPm, led the discussion on “Love, Labels and Choices: How to Love Without Losing Yourself,” where she broke down different types of relationships and attachment styles, helping students better understand how they connect with others.
She also emphasized the importance of consent, emotional readiness, and recognizing healthy relationship signs, while addressing challenges such as peer pressure. Discussions on love languages encouraged students to reflect on how they express and receive care.
Topics on s*x and pregnancy were also tackled, focusing on their possible impacts and the importance of making informed and responsible decisions.
Anchored on the quote, “The good life is a process, not a state of being,” by Carl Rogers, the seminar highlighted the value of continuous growth. Participants were reminded to “know your flags, understand your love language, think before you act, and choose yourself and your future.”
The seminar concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Felicisimo Santiago, who urged students to continue engaging in conversations about mental health.
