This achievement is the result of everyone's hard work, dedication, and genuine commitment throughout the process. The COED Extension Unit is grateful to have contributed by showing how our extension projects continue to reach and uplift lives of the communities we serve.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Eddie C. Manzano, for the steady guidance and support to these programs; to the BEED Program Head Dr. Cenby Eppie G. Gaytos and BSED Program Head Dr. Manuela P. Sison, for the support and coordination; and to all COED faculty members whose teamwork strengthened every part of the evaluation process. This success reflects what we can achieve together.

As we move forward, the COED Extension Unit remains committed to keeping our extension projects active and responsive to community needs. We will continue building partnerships, supporting our beneficiaries, and improving our extension programs to ensure that our work stays aligned with the values and goals of COED and ESSU as a whole.

𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗡: Second year BSED Filipino, katuwang ang APO Guiuan Alumni Association, nagsagawa ng community outreach sa Brgy. Banahao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Nagsagawa ng community outreach ang mga ikalawang taon na mag-aaral ng Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED Filipino) katuwang ang APO Guiuan Alumni Association - #403 nitong Agosto 30, 2025 sa Barangay Banahao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Sa ginawang aktibidad, namahagi ang grupo ng mga school supplies at meryenda, at nagsagawa ng iba't ibang palaro na may premyo na nilahukan ng mag-aaral mula sa kindergarten hanggang ika-anim na baitang ng Banahao Elementary School, pati na rin ang piling mag-aaral sa ika-pitong baitang na kalahok sa Project BASICS.

Dumalo sa nasabing gawain sina Dr. Eddie C. Manzano, Dekano ng College of Education; Gng. Manuela P. Sison, Head ng BSED Program; at mga g**o mula sa BSED Program na sina G. Bert Jameson Daria, Gng. Joanna Padullo, Kalvin G. Parrocho, at G. Mark John L. Cabanatan. Katuwang din ang mga miyembro ng APO Guiuan Alumni Association sa pangunguna ng kanilang pangulo na si Gng. Jannil Roda P. Estil-Mesa.

Isinagawa ang outreach bilang bahagi ng kurso sa Educ 211: The Teacher and the Community, School Culture and Organizational Leadership. Layunin nitong maghatid ng makabuluhang karanasan at mga kagamitang makatutulong sa pag-aaral ng mga mag-aaral.

Nagpa-abot naman ng pasasalamat ang mga pre-service teachers sa APO Guiuan Alumni Association, sa Punong Barangay Hon. Maximo C. Lace, Barangay Kagawad sa Komite ng Edukasyon Hon. Francisco Abunales, at sa Teacher In-charge ng Banahao Elementary School Bb. Gloria P. Odon, sa kanilang walang sawang suporta at pakiki-isa upang maisakatuparan nang maayos ang programa.

𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆

The extension team of Project BASICS presented the project's progress and future directions during the First Quarter School-Based Portfolio Day of Banahao Elementary School on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Brgy. Banahao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

In attendance were BSED Program Head Dr. Manuela P. Sison, English In-charge Jocine A. Tanqui-on, Social Studies In-charge Bert Jameson D. Daria (B Jameson Daria), COED Extension Coordinator Joanna Len B. Padullo, and BSED faculty members Kalvin G. Parrocho and Mark John L. Cabanatan (MarkJohn Lavilla Cabanatan).

During the program, the team shared relevant updates on the project's recent achievements and discussed future plans to sustain its impact in the community. Through this engagement, Project BASICS reaffirmed its continuing presence and relevance in its adopted barangay.

As part of the program activities, Dr. Sison and Mr. Daria also joined school officials in awarding the top-performing students for the first quarter.

In support of the extension project, parents who were interviewed expressed their gratitude and affirmed their continued support for the more learning sessions to be conducted by the BSED English Program.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦: Sessions four and five of the Adopt-a-Barangay Reading Program were conducted by the BSED faculty of ESSU Guiuan on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Trinidad Elementary School, Brgy. Trinidad, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

With the session title “Timeless Tales: Fables, Legends, and Myths,” the activity amassed 15 youth participants from Barangay Trinidad, together with selected BSED faculty and second year Social Studies students.

Serving as resource speakers were BSED faculty members Mr. Bert Jameson Daria B Jameson Daria, Mrs. Antonette A. Edang Antonette Abaloyan Edang, and Prof. Chona A. Dado Chona AD. In the first session, Mr. Daria emphasized the cultural values found in folk tales, while participants presented storyboards showing the lessons they gained.

Mrs. Edang and Prof. Dado guided the youth in analyzing tales and creating comic strips, activities that encouraged literacy, creativity, and critical thinking.

The session activities form part of this year's skills target with storytelling set as the major output for Year 2.

𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝘽𝘼𝙎𝙄𝘾𝙎 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙; 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙮 𝙎𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣

The BSED English Program formally presented Project BASICS to third-party impact assessors from the Immaculate Conception School (ICS) of Guiuan, Inc. during a courtesy meeting held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the College of Education, ESSU Guiuan Campus.

The assessment team, with ICS Academic Coordinator Regiem P. Demdam Jr. as the Lead Assessor, was briefed on the project's objectives, strategies, and milestones since its launch in 2018, including interactive weekly sessions designed to strengthen junior high school students' writing and speaking skills.

The initial activities for impact assessment are scheduled to commence this Saturday, August 23, 2025, to officially mark the formal start of the assessment phase.

The said assessment seeks to determine Project BASICS’ effectiveness, sustainability, and community impact, to ensure that the program remains relevant in providing literacy in the adopted barangay.

𝙎𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 2 𝙖𝙣𝙙 3 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙙 ✅

The Adopt-a-Barangay extension project completed its second and third sessions on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Trinidad Elementary School in Barangay Trinidad, Tubabao Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The sessions featured the Elements of a Good Story and The Art of Storytelling: Voice, Expressions, and Proper Gestures which developed participants' storytelling skills through structured workshops. Moreover, interactive strategies encouraged participants to develop necessary skills to be used in future storytelling activities.

To achieve the session competencies, BSED English faculty members Angelo Gabriel I. Lagramada and Jocine A. Tanqui-on served as resource speakers, while second-year BSED Social Studies students assisted in managing the activities.

The sessions also drew the presence of another BSED faculty member Antonette Abaloyan-Edang, BTVTED Program Head Prof. Lourdes B. Macawile, led by BSED Program Head Dr. Manuela P. Sison who graced the event. Their guidance supported the conduct of the workshops and ensured the smooth delivery of activities.

Youth participants later performed in groups to demonstrate their learning. The presentations enhanced creativity, teamwork, and communication while moving forward the project’s goal of strengthening community literacy.

𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 ✍️

Session 8 of Project BASICS was held at Banahao Elementary School on August 16, 2025 focusing on the use of transition signals to strengthen pupils’ writing and speaking skills.

Facilitated by the second-year students of BSED English, the activity sought to enhance the pupils’ literacy skills through interactive strategies. BSED English faculty member Kalvin G. Parrocho and COED Extension Coordinator Joanna Len B. Padullo graced the event in support of the student facilitators.

Pupils engaged in practice exercises that highlighted the role of transition words in organizing ideas, achieving coherence, and improving communication.

The session concluded with interactive activities where learners demonstrated their understanding of transition signals and their growing confidence in expressing ideas before an audience.

Now in its second year, the Adopt-a-Barangay Reading Program continues its mission of promoting literacy and lifelong learning among young learners.

The 2025 implementation commenced on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Trinidad Elementary School, Brgy. Trinidad, Tubabao Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar, with an orientation and first learning session attended by Junior High School student-participants.

BSED English faculty member Kalvin G. Parrocho spearheaded the orientation by presenting Year 2’s focus, objectives, and upcoming activities centered on storytelling. Following this, participants engaged in the first session titled “The Power of Stories: Why Do People Tell Stories?”

Assisted by second-year BSED Social Studies students, the session was made more engaging and interactive. The day’s activities emphasized the purpose of telling stories which featured collaborative tasks and recording of self-introductions to encourage student participation and build confidence.

The program’s previous cycle concluded with the launch of a public mini-library at Trinidad Elementary School, an initiative made possible through the efforts of Project Leader and Vice President of External Affairs and Quality Assurance Dr. Jocelyn S. Castro and COED Dean Dr. Eddie C. Manzano EC Onaznam. This milestone expanded access to more learning resources in the community.

This year’s extension project will center on storytelling sessions to be implemented in three phases: Phase 1 – Learning the Essentials of Storytelling, Phase 2 – Practicing Storytelling, and Phase 3 – Creating and Presenting Stories. These phases are designed to equip learners with foundational skills, provide opportunities for developing storytelling skills, and culminate in the presentation of stories they will read and are available in the public mini-library.

𝙎𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 7 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙝 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚

Spearheaded by the second-year English majors of the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) program, the seventh session of Project BASICS zeroed in on mastering speech structure during its implementation on August 9, 2025, at Banahao Elementary School, Brgy. Banahao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Carrying the title "Introduction to Speech Structure," the session engaged Banahao Elementary School learners in interactive activities such as Word Scramble, Arranging the Pieces, Identifying the Speech Parts, and Creating My Speech Outline. These activities aimed to strengthen their ability to communicate effectively by understanding the essential components and logical flow of a speech.

The program was conducted under the supervision of faculty members Mr. Alvin Daga and Mr. Mark John Cabanatan, who provided guidance and support to the student facilitators throughout the implementation.

Participants displayed enthusiasm and active involvement from start to finish and completed each task with focus and energy.

Isinagawa ng ikalawang pangkat ng Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED 2 Filipino) ang isang matagumpay na community outreach noong Agosto 8, 2025 sa Barangay Ngolos, Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Sama-samang nagtulungan ang buong team upang maipamahagi ang school supplies, snacks, at magsagawa ng mga palarong may pa-premyo na lubos na ikinatuwa ng mga bata.

Kabilang sa mga lumahok sa aktibidad ang mga g**o mula sa BSED Program na sina G. Bert B Jameson Daria , Gng. Joanna Padullo, Gng. Chona A. Dado Chona AD, Gng. Antonette Abaloyan Edang , at G. MarkJohn Lavilla Cabanatan. Naging aktibo ring katuwang ang mga mag-aaral ng BSED 2 Filipino majors sa pagbibigay-saya at kaalaman sa dalawampu't pitong (27) kabataang kalahok mula sa ikaanim na baitang.

Lubos ang pasasalamat ng grupo sa mainit na pagtanggap at suporta ni Punong Barangay Hon. Tomas L. Somoray III ng Brgy. Ngolos, na naging susi upang maisakatuparan nang maayos at matagumpay ang programa.

Layunin ng outreach na ito na maghatid ng kasiyahan, makabuluhang karanasan, at mga kagamitang makatutulong sa pag-aaral. Ito ay isinagawa bilang bahagi sa kanilang kurso sa Educ 211: The Teacher and the Community, School Culture and Organizational Leadership.

Sa pamamagitan ng ganitong gawain, nabibigyan ang mga bata ng pagkakataong makisangkot, matuto, at makihalubilo sa iba’t ibang mag-aaral sa masayang paraan.

The BSED Second-year English majors facilitated Sessions 5 and 6 of Project BASICS on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Banahao Elementary School, Brgy. Banahao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

For Session 5, "Storytelling Basics: Using the Right Tone", learners participated in a series of activities including Say it With Emotions, Guess the Emotion, Match the Tone, and Tell a Story with Emotion, all aimed at enhancing their ability to express meaning through tone.

Meanwhile, Session 6, "Thinking and Speaking in English", featured the Quick Response Challenge, Word Association Quick Thinking Challenge, Define the Word Challenge, and One Minute Talk to encourage fluency and quick thinking in spoken English.

To ensure effective implementation, the sessions were conducted under the guidance of faculty members Mr. Angelo Gabriel Iglopas Lagramada and Mr. MarkJohn Lavilla Cabanatan, who joined and supported the student facilitators throughout the activity.

As a result, learners remained engaged in completing each task with interest and cooperation.

Both sessions were pursued to support the goal of Project BASICS in preparing learners for fluent public speaking through fun and purposeful language activities.

The Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) English second-year students led Session 4 of Project BASICS on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Child Development Center, Barangay Banahao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Titled “Paragraph Development: Adding Details to Sentences,” the session aimed to enhance the writing skills of junior high school learners through sentence-building and paragraph-writing activities.

The young participants engaged in various exercises such as sentence expansion and interactive games designed to make learning fun and effective.

To support the session, College of Education (COED) Dean Dr. EC Onaznam , together with the BSED faculty members Ms. Jocine Tanqui-on, Mr. Kalvin G. Parrocho, Mr. MarkJohn Lavilla Cabanatan , and COED Extension Coordinator Mrs. Joanna Len B. Padullo were in attendance to guide the students in facilitating the session.

Meanwhile, as part of their requirements for the course Educ211 The Teacher and the Community, School Culture, and Organizational Leadership, the participating BSED second-year English majors initiated the activity to help carry out the BSED English program’s extension efforts.

Bringing the BSED English pre-service teachers into the community reinforces their role as future English teachers and as active contributors to social development.
