Pagatpatan shines with silver at Batang Pinoy 2025
Eastern Samar- Rising young athlete Ruel M. Pagatpatan, 12 years old of Cantahay Elementary School, Guiuan, Eastern Samar represented the province as he clinched silver medal in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy National Championships in General Santos City.
Pagatpatan, who competed in the Rapid Chess category displayed a remarkable skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition. His performance earned admiration not only from his coaches and teammates but also from spectators who witnessed his strong effort against some of the best young athletes in the country.
‘’I am very happy and thankful to represent Guiuan, Eastern Samar’’, said Pagatpatan after the medal ceremony. “This motivates me to train harder and aim for gold next time”.
Pagatpatan’s success highlights the growing potential of athletes from Eastern Samar and reflects the province’s commitment to supporting youth sports development. Local sports officials expressed their pride in his achievement, saying that his dedication serves as an inspiration for other young athletes in the province.
The Batang Pinoy Program organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) continues to serve as a breeding ground for future national athletes by providing platform for children aged 15 and below to showcase their talents in various sporting disciplines.
With his silver medal finish, Ruel Pagatpatan has proven that passion and perseverance can bring glory not only to himself but also to his school, hometown and province.
