OLSHCO 76th Founding Anniversary | Essay Writing Contest Guideline
Theme: Gems of Gratitude: 76 Years of Service, Faith, and Excellence
Participants: College, Senior High School, and Junior High School (Grade 10) students of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College of Guimba, Inc.
Objectives:
1. To create an essay that celebrates Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College of Guimba, Inc.'s 76th Founding Anniversary and its commitment to service, faith, and excellence.
2. To showcase the creativity and artistic talents of the students.
3. To promote a sense of community and pride in the school.
Mechanics:
1. Essays must be original and created by the chosen individual representing his/her section (iBED) and year level of every program (College).
2. Every Section (iBED) and Program Year Level (College) must submit ONE entry. However, any interested and independent student can also submit one entry from the designated theme’s element under idem guideline.
3. Essays must be 500-750 words in length.
4. Essays must be double-spaced and typed in 12-point Times New Roman font.
5. Essays must ramify with the assigned winning poster of theme element from the theme - "Service", "Faith" or "Excellence" as gems of gratitude respectively for 76 years of educational synodality and tutelage.
6. Use your laptop to create your essay.
7. Submit the hard copy and the soft copy on or before the given time.
8. Winners will be announced during the Flag Ceremony on November 20, 2023.
Submission of Entries:
· The hard copy must be submitted to the contest coordinator by November 16, 2023, on or before 12:00 noon only.
· The soft copy must be sent to: [email protected]
· Essays must be accompanied by an entry title and author’s name.
Judging and Criteria:
The essay will be judged by a panel of experts based on the following criteria:
· Content (clarity, organization, and support of ideas) (40%)
· Writing style (grammar, mechanics, and usage) (30%)
· Creativity and originality (observe proper citation) (20%)
· Relevance to the theme element (10%)
Expected Judges:
· Vice President for Academic Affairs
· Chair of Tertiary Studies
· IBED Principal
· Cor Unum Advisers (College and IBED)
Prizes:
· The winning essay from each theme element will receive prizes and certificates!
· The top three essays from each element will receive a certificate of recognition.
· All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
Other Guidelines:
· The school reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet the guidelines.
· All entries submitted will become the property of the school.
· The school may use the winning entries for promotional and analogous purposes.
· Guidelines and provisions are subject to change without notice, in case unforeseen circumstances arise.
Additional Tips for Contestants:
· Based on the theme element, choose a topic that you are passionate about and that you have personal experience with or other’s experiences known to you.
· Do your research and gather evidence to support your claims.
· Organize your thoughts and ideas logically.
· Write in a clear and concise style.
· Proofread your essay carefully before submitting it.
