In just three short years, Sigaboy Agricultural Vocational High Schoolโs Special Program in Journalism has grown from a pioneering batch of 33 learners into a developing journalism hub with expanding programs, resources, and a dedicated three-storey facilityโculminating in a successful regional validation that now brings SAVHS closer to the issuance of its Regional Special Order.
Division and DepEd Region XI personnel validated the programโs curriculum implementation, learner development, faculty readiness, facilities, resources, and sustainability. Validators particularly recognized the strong administrative support under School Principal I Jenny L. Presente, including the dedication of a three-storey building for journalism instruction, broadcasting, multimedia production, and newsroom activities.
Another standout was SAVHSโ resourcefulness in bringing professional learning closer to students through free courses and materials from NBCU Academy, an education initiative that offers training in journalism, reporting, interviewing, writing, ethics, digital media, and newsroom practices.
At the forefront of the programโs journey is Aljun M. Jordan, SPJ Focal Person and Program Coordinator, who has helped steer curriculum implementation, journalism training, documentation, resource mobilization, and preparations for regional validation.
From its first SPJ class in SY 2024โ2025 to regional validation in its third year, SAVHS has covered significant ground in a remarkably short time. With the validation successfully completed, the school now awaits its Regional Special Orderโanother milestone in a three-year journey that shows just how far a program can go when vision, resourcefulness, and institutional support move together.
