Extension in Action | Pineapple-Based Product Development Training 🍍

Isinagawa kahapon ng College of Teacher Education, Cagayan State University–Gonzaga Campus ang Pineapple-Based Product Development Training, isang extension initiative sa pangunguna ni Dr. Evelyn T. Saribay, Project Leader, sa pakikipagtulungan sa Gonzaga Credit Cooperative (GCC).

Layunin ng programang ito na mabigyan ang mga kalahok ng kaalaman at praktikal na kasanayan sa paglikha ng mga value-added pineapple products bilang alternatibong kabuhayan at oportunidad sa pagnenegosyo. Tinalakay rin ang tamang food processing techniques, food safety and sanitation, quality control, packaging, labeling, at basic entrepreneurial concepts upang higit na mapataas ang marketability ng kanilang mga produkto.

Pinangunahan ang hands-on product development demonstration nina Dr. Janice M. Sistoza, Dr. Wendy Joy M. Garma, at Dr. Avelina A. Ayuyang, mga faculty members ng College of Teacher Education, na nagbahagi ng kanilang kaalaman at teknolohiya sa pagproseso ng mga produktong mula sa pinya. Naging katuwang nila sa pagsasagawa ng demonstrasyon ang mga piling mag-aaral ng Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED-2), na tumulong sa iba’t ibang gawain upang matiyak ang maayos at matagumpay na pagsasagawa ng aktibidad.

Higit pa sa pagbabahagi ng kasanayan, ang gawaing ito ay patunay ng patuloy na pagtupad ng CSU–Gonzaga sa adhikain nitong makapaghatid ng makabuluhan, tumutugon, at transformasyong extension programs na nagsusulong ng self-reliance, entrepreneurship, at sustainable community development.

Taos-puso ang aming pasasalamat sa Gonzaga Credit Cooperative (GCC) sa kanilang aktibong pakikilahok, bukas na kolaborasyon, at buong pusong suporta sa gawaing ito. Ang inyong kooperasyon at dedikasyon ay naging mahalagang bahagi sa tagumpay ng programang ito. Nawa’y magsilbi itong simula ng higit pang matibay na ugnayan at sama-samang pagsisikap tungo sa pagbibigay-kapangyarihan sa komunidad at pagpapaunlad ng kabuhayan ng bawat isa.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝗖𝗧𝗘 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝟵𝟮 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) honored 92 fourth-year student educators during its 4th Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony on July 31, 2026, at the university gymnasium. With the theme, “Carrying the Light of Learning: Preparing Competent and Compassionate Future Educators,” the ceremony marked the students’ symbolic transition from pre-service teachers to field interns and future professional educators.

The ceremony was attended by the proud parents and guardians of the student interns, esteemed guest speaker, and the entire CTE faculty, who gathered to celebrate this meaningful occasion.

The program was formally opened by College Dean Dr. Romar R. Banadero, who emphasized the significance of the ceremony as the future educators prepare to enter the real world of teaching.

“It symbolizes your readiness to step forward and embrace the responsibilities, values, and commitment that come with the noble profession of teaching,” he stated.

A heartfelt introduction of the guest speaker was then delivered by Dr. Glyzelda H. Gonzales, Campus Academic Coordinator.

Dr. Arlene T. Bello, Senior High School Teacher III, then delivered an inspiring message centered on the symbolism of “light” in teaching. She introduced the acronym ILAW, which stands for Intentions, Learning Experiences, Assessment, and Ways Forward. She reminded the candidates that teaching goes beyond creative presentations and instructional materials. Rather, ILAW serves as a meaningful reminder that teaching is more than a profession—it is about becoming a light to students, guiding them toward knowledge and inspiring them to hope and persevere.

“Ang ilaw ay hindi kailanman nagsindi para lamang sa sarili nito. Ito ay nagniningning upang ang iba ay makakita ng maliwanag na daanan. Ngayon, kayo na ang mga ilaw na magbibigay-liwanag sa susunod na henerasyon,” she emphasized.

Her words left a lasting impression on the students, serving as a source of inspiration, wisdom, and encouragement as they prepare for their internship journey.

Following the inspirational message, the highlight of the program unfolded through the Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony. The pinning symbolized the students’ readiness to assume the responsibilities of field interns, while the lighting of candles represented their commitment to becoming beacons of knowledge, compassion, and service. The ceremony embodied the university’s dedication to academic excellence, integrity, and the formation of future educators committed to making a difference in the lives of their learners.

The Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony remains a time-honored tradition of the College of Teacher Education at Cagayan State University–Gonzaga, serving as a gateway for aspiring educators to embrace the realities of the teaching profession as they move closer to graduation and the licensure examination.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗, 𝗖𝗛𝗥 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗜 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺

As part of its continuing commitment to community engagement and extension services, the College of Teacher Education (CTED) of Cagayan State University–Gonzaga, in collaboration with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region II, conducted Project C.A.R.E.: Human Rights Symposium as a community extension program for the residents of Barangay Amunitan on July 23, 2026, at the Mabric Conference Hall, Cagayan State University–Gonzaga.

The activity was attended by community members headed by Barangay Captain Norman C. Gonzaga, together with student leaders and faculty members of the College of Teacher Education.

Ms. Lorraine C. Daquioag, JD, Information Officer II and GAD Co-Focal Person of CHR Region II, emphasized that human rights are the foundation of dignity and development. She discussed the fundamentals of human rights and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act (RA 9208, as amended by RA 10364), highlighting its three essential elements: Act, Means, and Purpose.

She also underscored that the State has the primary obligation to respect, protect, and fulfill the human rights of every individual.

Meanwhile, Atty. Cecilia G. Melad-Lazaro, OIC-Regional Director of CHR Region II, discussed the rights and responsibilities of student leaders and explained provisions on family coverage up to the fourth degree. She also emphasized Section 25, which states that OSEC and CSAEM cases cannot be dismissed through an Affidavit of Desistance, along with key provisions under Section 5.

Atty. Marie Grace R. Marcos, Attorney IV and GAD Focal Person, discussed the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 (RA 9344). She explained the intervention and diversion programs available for children in conflict with the law, including discernment assessments and rehabilitation services through Bahay Pag-asa.

“Ang pagkakamali ay hindi katapusan. The youth is not just the future, but the present. They deserve a chance to learn from their mistakes and become better citizens,” Atty. Marcos said.

During the afternoon session, Mr. Benjamin A. Banatao, JD, Senior Investigator and PWD Focal Person, discussed laws protecting persons with disabilities, including RA 7277, BP 344, RA 10070, RA 10754, RA 11228, and RA 10524. He also introduced the “Five Golden Rules” in interacting with persons with disabilities and reminded participants that “Disability is not an inability.”

The extension program concluded with an open forum and a post-test to assess participants’ understanding of the discussions. Through this collaborative initiative, CTED and CHR Region II strengthened community awareness of human rights, anti-trafficking, juvenile justice, and disability inclusion while providing future educators with meaningful opportunities to engage in community-based learning and public service.

(Champion Child Protection, Act Against Human Trafficking, Respect Human Rights, Embrace Equality and Inclusion) in observance of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
