The Book Nook Site Visit series has wrapped, and what the team brought back is hard to put into a single post.
Across the region, local coordinators and volunteers are doing the kind of work that doesn't always make headlines but shapes communities in ways that last. Visiting the local government units that make it possible was just as important as visiting the nooks themselves. Our gratitude goes to Mayor Jerold B. Peรฑa (San Jose), Mayor Raquel S. Lim (Goa), Vice Mayor Marcel Michael P. Pan (Goa), Mayor Manuel A. Ibasco Jr. (Bula), Mayor Niรฑo A. Tayco (Pasacao), Mayor Ma. Leonor G. Robredo (Naga City), and Mayor Jesciel Richard G. Salceda (Polangui) for championing these spaces in their communities!
Reading culture doesn't build itself. In Bicol, at least, it has the right people behind it!

The Book Nook Site Visit series made its way to Goa, Camarines Sur, where the NBDB Readership Development Division met with Mayor Hon. Raquel S. Lim and Vice Mayor Hon. Marcel Michael P. Pan to explore how the local government can further sustain the Book Nooks in the area.
The team then visited the Book Nook at Goa Community College (GCC), welcomed by coordinator Ms. Marjorie Nebran, GCC President Dr. Nita V. Morallo, Municipal Librarian Ruby Antoinette Lelis, and library staff member Mary Joy Rosales. The nook was busy with students gravitating toward Filipino-authored titles.
In conversations with the students, one thing came through clearly: seeing themselves in the stories they read matters. For these young readers, the Book Nook isn't just a resourceโit's a mirror, and reading becomes an act of cultural empowerment when the stories on the shelves are created by Filipinos, for Filipinos.
More updates from the site visits coming soon!
