Last June 26, 2026, the Grade 9 students of Juan L. Filipino Memorial High School showcased their creativity, teamwork, and engineering skills through the Designing and Testing a Water Rocket with Egg Challenge.

Congratulations to the winners of the Eggstronaut Award, Sky Breaker Award, and AeroArt Rocket Award for demonstrating outstanding innovation, precision, and excellence in the Rocket Flying Competition.

During the Brigada Eskwela 2026 Opening Ceremony, SK Chairperson, Hon. Jarel Doroin, as the Keynote Speaker, reminded everyone that creating a conducive learning environment is a shared responsibility, and the youth play a vital role in making it possible through service and cooperation.

In line with this year’s Brigada Eskwela, this message highlights the importance of unity and volunteerism as the community comes together to prepare the school for a safe, clean, and conducive space for learning.

Recently, a fruit who introduced herself as “Sharmaine” raised concerns about a supposed lack of creativity in how oranges were named after the color. But it's actually the other way around!

Although often associated with Western cuisine and culture, oranges actually originated in the tropical regions of Asia and Africa. According to Britannica, the fruit is likely native to India and the eastern coast of Africa before spreading westward through trade routes into the Mediterranean and, eventually, Europe.

As oranges gained popularity in medieval Europe, new terms emerged to describe them. By the 13th century, European languages already had variations such as the Anglo-Norman pume orenge, Old French pomme d’orenge, and German Pomeranze, all roughly meaning “orange apple,” referring to the fruit borne by the orange tree.

It was not until the early 16th century that orange began to be used as a color term, describing a reddish-yellow hue resembling the fruit. Before this, English speakers typically referred to the color simply as “yellow-red.” Over the following centuries, “orange” gradually became established as a standard adjective in the English language.
