Women in this field have navigated a traditionally male-dominated space taking on the pen to more sustainable societies.

As today marks the celebration of the International Women’s Month, we must remember and reminisce the roles of women as trailblazers, who contributed in the development of the Philippine society. 👸✨

Singkusog ni Juana is a platform that represents and amplifies the voices of women, creating a space to foster empowerment among women from all walks of life. This day gives Singkusog ni Juana another chance to showcase the inevitable march of the HERstory of women. With this, Juana is here to bring knowledge to the public some of the 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 implemented by the government agencies 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, as the fight for equality never stops.

Amidst the digital realm, we rally behind initiatives to combat online violence to create a safe haven for women.

Technological developments have given way to various platforms to communicate and connect with others. However, along with these benefits lies an old danger that has taken an online form — exposure to online violence. The expanding digital realm and the use of digital technology have facilitated new and heightened forms of gender-based violence [10].

Technology-facilitated gender-based violence, an act committed through the use of digital tools or technologies, causes physical, sexual, psychological, social, political, or economic harm to women and children [10]. These forms of abuse are part of a much larger spectrum of violence against women and children.

Let us no longer be bound by fear ❤️‍🩹 Together, let’s stand with Juana and end this VAWC. Once and for all.

Ingrained into society’s core, even the digital space is not free from the infestations of gender-based violence. In UN Women (2023) and UNITAD (n.d), the following 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵-𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 are distinguished: 📱👩‍💻

1️⃣ Intimate Image Abuse
• Technology-facilitated sexual violence involving the nonconsensual creation and distribution of n**e or sexual images.

2️⃣ Doxxing
• Publishing someone’s personal information online in the absence of their consent, which may allow for the perpetuation of stalking, harassment, or even physical harm

3️⃣ Harassment, Stalking, and Trolling
• Illegal use of the Internet to harass or threaten female individuals and starting arguments by posting inappropriate and extraneous messages in an online community or blog.

4️⃣ Sharing of Deepfake Images
• The creation and sharing of manipulated images, videos, and audio content to spread convincing but entirely fictional events. Many are pornographic in form and are being weaponized against women.

5️⃣ Misogynistic Hate Speech
• Statements or expressions that spread, provoke, or encourage hatred against women — especially young women, female celebrities, or female politicians.

Among these, many manifestations have been embedded within society—unbeknownst to us and others. Together, let’s learn to distinguish these actions and fight for a VAWC-free future.

In this fight against VAWC, we foster knowledge and awareness to eradicate any remaining traces of such abuses and hold space for a world that upholds every individual’s rights. Be alert, and let Juana see. 💡
