Let Go and Begin Again (2026)
As we welcome 2026, our High School students took part in the SDA activity “Let Go and Begin Again,” provided by our Student Services Office led by Sir Wil de Vera. This meaningful session provided a safe and reflective space for learners to release past burdens, acknowledge their emotions, and set healthier intentions for the year ahead.
Rooted in the school’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) mission, the activity aimed to strengthen self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, and hope. These are essential skills for both academic success and personal growth. By learning to let go and begin again, our students are empowered to move forward with clarity, confidence, and renewed purpose.

DECEMBER 08
is Holiday!
On December 8, 2025, the Philippines observes the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, a special (non-working) holiday dedicated to honoring the Virgin Mary.
THE MEANING AND SIGNIFICANCE OF DECEMBER 8 AS A HOLIDAY IN THE PHILIPPINES
December 8 stands out in the Philippine calendar as a deeply meaningful day, recognized nationwide as a special non-working holiday. This date commemorates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, a solemn celebration rooted in centuries of Christian belief and devotion. For a country where faith and culture are tightly interwoven, this feast is more than a liturgical observance—it is a reflection of national identity and spiritual heritage.
A Celebration of the Immaculate Conception
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception honors the doctrine that the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, was conceived without original sin. This belief highlights Mary’s unique role in salvation history, emphasizing purity, grace, and the divine plan that prepared her to become the Mother of God.
This teaching was formally declared a dogma in 1854 by Pope Pius IX, but Marian devotion in the Philippines long predates that proclamation. Filipinos have carried a deep affection for Mary since the earliest arrival of Christianity in the archipelago.
Why December 8 Became a Philippine Holiday
In 2017, the Philippine government officially declared December 8 a special non-working holiday through Republic Act No. 10966. The law recognizes the cultural and spiritual importance of the feast and affirms the strong Marian devotion evident throughout the nation. For many Filipinos, this holiday is an opportunity to:
• Attend Mass and offer prayers
• Reflect on Mary’s virtues of humility, obedience, and purity
• Gather with family for a quiet moment of rest and reverence
• Begin preparations for the final stretch of the Christmas season
A Day of Reflection and Renewal
Beyond tradition, December 8 invites a deeper contemplation of what Mary represents. Her “yes” to God—her openness to grace—stands as an enduring example of faith and courage. In a world filled with noise and uncertainty, the feast encourages stillness and hope.
The day gently reminds us to examine the state of our hearts. Are we receptive to goodness? Are we willing to embrace the responsibilities placed before us with the same willingness Mary showed? Her life echoes the message that grace is not passive; it calls us toward transformation.
The Filipino Marian Heart
Mary’s image is seen in churches, schools, streets, and homes across the country. She is honored under countless titles—Our Lady of Peñafrancia, Our Lady of Manaoag, Our Lady of Antipolo, and many more. These devotions reflect the Filipino tendency to form a personal, almost familial relationship with her.
For many, she is both mother and protector, a steady light guiding the nation through trials, calamities, and celebrations.
In Summary
December 8 is more than a holiday—it is a moment carved out in the midst of a busy season for Filipinos to pause and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. It connects faith with identity, history with devotion, and community with contemplation. It marks a time to recognize grace at work, both in Mary’s life and in the lives of those who continue to seek her intercession.
This yearly celebration reinforces a simple but profound truth: Mary’s purity and faith illuminate a path of hope, reminding us that grace can transform the world, one willing heart at a time.
