Determined to bring honor to the school, West High athletes bagged medals in the recent Division Sports Meet 2023 which started last February 25-26, 2023 at the General Trias City Sports Complex.
Student athletes from Luis Y. Ferrer Jr. West National High School secured their coveted victories in the different sports events. The school bagged gold in futsal; silver in basketball; and qualified for regionals in boxing and athletics.
The schoolโs taekwondo team also snatched majority of the gold medals. Golds were secured in featherweight (girls), finweight (boys), welterweight, poomsae individual B boys and poomsae individual B girls. The silver spot was also hit in lightweight (girls), finweight (girls) and openweight (boys) while featherweight (girls), flyweight (boys) and poomsae individual A achieved bronze.
โNapakagagaling ng mga players ng taekwondo. Kahit na kulang sila sa practice at experiences sa game ay naipakita pa rin nila ang kanilang husay at galing,โ said Mrs. Leilanie Delos Santos, coach of the taekwondo team.
"Nagti-training ng tuloy-tuloy at nag-aapply ng panibagong strategies and techniques at program," shared Mr. Marco Amurao, coach of the futsal team, when asked how the team is preparing their quest to the bigger arena.
The school through the leadership of Mrs. Marilie Dimapilis continues to encourage and propel the schoolโs regional qualifiers by providing them the appropriate support they need.
โBlessings in many ways. Thank you po sa gift of joy in playing, sa learnersโ potentials, and sa financial assistance from our local officials Mayor Jonjon, Vice Jonas and Team Gentri,โ shared Mrs. Dimapilis in her Facebook account expressing how grateful and blessed the school is for the overflowing support of the Local Government Unit.
The school is also thankful to all the trainers for helping the students achieve their desired preparation for free. Mr. Richard Sta. Ana trains the taekwondo team while Mr. Globert Alobin extends his support to the futsal team. They are working alongside teacher coaches who are also tireless in advocating their time for credentials checking, other necessary follow ups and constant encouragement to West Highโs young athletes.
The Division Meet 2023 is set to hold other events on March 4-5, 2023.

"Bilang leader, huwag tayong kumampay nang solo... dapat sama- sama tayo sa iisang tunguhin."
Those were the words that Mrs. Marilie C. Dimapilis, the school principal, reiterated to the faculty as she had the meeting earlier this day, March 01, 2023, at the Conference room focusing on the observation of the Learning Recovery Plan (LRP) and the different Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs).
She encouraged the teachers to stay committed in delivering quality teaching and services to the students in support to Department of Education's Learning Recovery Plan (LRP) implementation which runs for three consecutive years beginning SY 2022-2023.
"If the teachers are called on for official business, only the focal persons will be allowed to go... the non- teaching personnel can act as their chaperon especially during the Sports competitions," explained Dimapilis.
Moreover, she reminded everyone particularly the project owners to continue the regular implementation of the school's programs and activities and be sure to conduct timely monitoring and evaluation on its accomplishments to ensure the quality of the programs.
Dimapilis also recognized the maintenance of the leaners' and teachers' health and well- being as she set guidelines on the conduct of the activities under the Programs MAHAL KA and FITWEST.
Many of the teachers gladly accepted the challenge and even helped in the planning and modifying some guidelines and procedures in the practice of the school's activities.
"Yung pinakagusto ko ay yung integration ng spiritual well- being sa mga flag raising and retreat ceremonies, para maibalik na rin ang Project LEAD," commented Ms. Nilda V. Duerme, a Grade 9 teacher.
More of the changes in the practice of activities include the schedule of the flag raising and retreat ceremonies, frequency of the conduct of activities under different PPAs and even the plan to offer free water refill to all the teachers and students in need to help create a more healthy environment.
"Kahit pagod na ang teacher [after the classes]... still magaan ang naging dating ng mga inilatag niyang [Mrs. Dimapilis] mga gawain, siguro dahil na rin sa good approach niya," remarked Mrs. Janice R. Seรฑorin, head of Grade 9 council.
Dimapilis concluded the meeting with a thought as inspired by the presentation she had at the beginning of her talk, "Ang lakas ng gangsa [geese] ay nasa sabay- sabay na kampay ng kanyang mga kasama sa kawan [flock]."
