As part of the performance tasks in MAPEH, Grade 9 students performed different Philippine festival dances.
Grade 9 students lit up the stage with their energy, creativity, and love for Philippine festivals! Twelve sections from the Grade 9 level confidently showed their graceful dance steps and amazing formations inspired by festival dances such as Cebuβs Sinulog, Masskara of Bacolod, Niyog Niyogan Festival of Quezon, and Baguioβs Panagbenga. The students also showed creativity and resourcefulness in their well-thought costumes and props. Each performance was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and appreciation of our rich cultural heritage.
This activity is one of the MAPEH subjects' Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC): Executes the skills involved in the dance. Students were given ample time to practice the dance steps and prepare for their performances.
Performance tasks like dance presentations aim to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and therefore serve as evidence of learning.
Letβs continue to embrace our culture, express ourselves through dance, and keep the festival spirit alive!
No classes were interrupted during the conduct of the activity.
Congratulations everyone!

Deaf Awareness Week β November 10-16, 2024
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 829 on November 8, 1991, declaring the period from November 10 to 16 of every year as βDeaf Awareness Week.β
The observance of this event hopes to create an environment that will allow people with deaf disabilities to enjoy productive lives by raising awareness throughout society and informing the public that the causes of disabilities can be prevented and that, when such disabilities exist, early detection and prompt and appropriate intervention can be performed.
What is Deaf Awareness Week?
Deaf Awareness Week is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the Deaf community, its culture, and the specific communication needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. It is a time to celebrate the Deaf community's contributions and to promote the rights of Deaf people worldwide.
History of the Event
Deaf Awareness Week was established to address the informational gaps and misconceptions that often surround the Deaf community and to advocate for equal opportunities. It serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusion, communication accessibility, and recognizing the linguistic diversity of sign languages.
West High aims to strengthen inclusive education.
Let's build a world of love, trust, and open communication.
