CONTINUITY IN ACTION | 199 North High learners to benefit from ARAL Program implementation this school year

GENERAL TRIAS CITY – DepEd Luis Y. Ferrer Jr. North National High School (LYFJNNHS) conducted a Parents' Orientation on the Implementation of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program on August 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN at the North High Junction Hall. The initiative, led by North High Principal Mr. Patricio H. Cruzada, Filipino ARAL Coordinator Ms. Anna Ruby O. Garcia, and Reading and Literacy Coordinator Ms. Gigi Lyn V. Aticaldo, aimed to strengthen school-home partnerships in support of the Department of Education's (DepEd) comprehensive learning recovery efforts for the School Year 2026-2027.

The orientation is anchored on Republic Act No. 12028, also known as the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program Act, which mandates targeted learning interventions for students requiring academic support to attain competencies prescribed by DepEd. For the current school year, LYFJNNHS has identified a total of 199 ARAL learners from Grades 7 to 10 in both English and Filipino, underscoring the critical need for parental engagement in the program's successful implementation. The ARAL Program represents a systematic approach to addressing learning gaps through structured intervention sessions, diagnostic assessments, and personalized learning plans designed to help struggling learners catch up with their grade-level competencies.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Cruzada emphasized the vital role of parents as partners in their children's academic recovery journey. "The ARAL Program is not just a school initiative – it is a collaborative effort that requires the active involvement of parents and guardians. Your support, encouragement, and monitoring of your children's attendance and engagement in these intervention sessions will determine the success of this program. Together, we can help our learners overcome their academic challenges and reach their full potential," Mr. Cruzada stated. School Parent and Teachers Association (SPTA) President Ms. Aj Lalong Isip delivered a message of support, affirming the parents' commitment to working hand-in-hand with the school in supporting learners' academic development.

Ms. Aticaldo conducted the orientation proper, providing detailed information about the program's implementation framework, including the schedule of intervention sessions, assigned ARAL tutors, and monitoring mechanisms. "We have carefully designed our ARAL intervention sessions to be learner-centered, engaging, and responsive to the specific needs of each student. Our tutors have undergone specialized training to deliver effective remedial instruction that builds both competence and confidence," Ms. Aticaldo explained. Ms. Garcia, who facilitated the roll call and coordinated the Filipino component of the program, added, "The ARAL Program focuses on foundational literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for academic success across all subject areas. By addressing learning gaps early and systematically, we prevent these challenges from compounding in higher grade levels."

A teacher attendee and designated ARAL tutor, Ms. Apple Claire A. Canillo, shared her perspective on the program's pedagogical approach: "The training we received emphasized differentiated instruction and formative assessment strategies that allow us to meet each learner where they are and guide them progressively toward mastery. This is not about labeling students as slow learners – it's about providing them the additional time and support they need to succeed." A parent of an ARAL learner in Grade 8, expressed both relief and commitment: "I was initially worried when I learned my child was identified for ARAL, but this orientation has given me clarity and hope. Now I understand that this is an opportunity for my child to receive focused support. I commit to ensuring regular attendance and creating a supportive learning environment at home." GENERAL TRIAS CITY – DepEd Luis Y. Ferrer Jr. North National High School (LYFJNNHS) conducted a comprehensive Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on "Guidance in Action: Strengthening Safe and Motivating Learning Environments Through DepEd No. 006, s. 2026" on August 13, 2026, at the North High Junction Hall. The initiative, spearheaded by North High Guidance Advocate Ms. Inky Jane Perez Estipona Latumbo, brought together teachers, parents, students, and school personnel to deepen their understanding of the Department of Education's landmark policy on creating secure and nurturing educational spaces.

North High Principal Mr. Patt Cruzada delivered the opening remarks and inspirational message, emphasizing the school's unwavering commitment to learner welfare and holistic development. "Creating a safe and motivating learning environment is not just a policy requirement – it is our moral obligation to every child entrusted to our care. Today's discussion will empower us all to become active partners in building a school culture where every learner feels valued, protected, and inspired to reach their full potential," Mr. Cruzada stated, setting the tone for the day's collaborative engagement.

Atty. Aaron Anthony S. Labordo, Legal Officer of the Schools Division Office (SDO) of DepEd General Trias City, served as the resource speaker, delivering an in-depth presentation on "Understanding DepEd Order No. 006, s. 2026: Guidelines on Ensuring a Safe and Motivating Learning Environment." Atty. Labordo explained that the order establishes a comprehensive framework for preventing and addressing bullying, violence, discrimination, and other forms of misconduct in schools while promoting positive discipline and learner-centered approaches. "DepEd Order No. 006 is a game-changer in Philippine education. It clearly delineates the rights and responsibilities of all stakeholders – learners, teachers, parents, and school personnel – and provides actionable mechanisms to ensure that our schools become sanctuaries of learning, not sources of fear or anxiety," Atty. Labordo emphasized. He further elaborated on the order's provisions regarding due process, restorative justice practices, and the establishment of school-based child protection committees.

Ms. Latumbo, who conceptualized and organized the FGD, highlighted the critical importance of translating policy into practice through sustained dialogue and capacity-building. "This focus group discussion is just the beginning of our journey toward fully implementing DepEd Order No. 006. Grade 10 learner and Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) President Micaela Danielle A. LOOK | North High receives strategic guidance from SDO General Trias Monitoring Team

GENERAL TRIAS CITY – DepEd Luis Y. Ferrer Jr. North National High School (LYFJNNHS) hosted a comprehensive monitoring and technical assistance visit from the Schools Division Office (SDO) DepEd General Trias City on August 12, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the institution's commitment to educational excellence and continuous improvement.

The monitoring team, led by DepEd General Trias City - Cluster 9 Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) Ms. Arlene Malabanan Hernandez, included Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in Araling Panlipunan Dr. Yolanda D. C. Lumanog, EPS in Mathematics Dr. Lynette P. Rue, and EPS in Kinder/SNED Ms. Annie C. Maraan. The visit focused on providing targeted instructional guidance, technical support, and strategic recommendations across multiple areas of school operations and academic delivery.

"Our goal today is to strengthen the instructional capacity of our teachers and ensure that every classroom practice aligns with the highest standards of quality education," Ms. Hernandez stated during the visit. She provided extensive technical assistance on critical operational areas including school infrastructure development, Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF) implementation, Learner Information System (LIS) management, and the proper ex*****on of HINAY/EASE-IN protocols during class suspensions.

Dr. Lumanog and Dr. Rue worked directly with subject teachers, delivering intensive guidance on lesson planning methodologies, effective teaching strategies, and the crucial alignment of learning competencies with assessment tools. "Effective lesson planning is the foundation of quality instruction.
