DBS Faculty Members Join the 19th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week

The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) proudly participated in the 19th PNHRS Week, held on August 11–13, 2026, at The Farm at Carpenter Hill, City of Koronadal, South Cotabato.

With the theme “HEALTHCONVERGE: Transforming Health Research, Connecting Cultures,” the three-day gathering brought together researchers, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share research innovations, strengthen collaborations, and explore ways to translate health research into meaningful and responsive solutions.

The participation of our DBS faculty highlights the department’s continuing commitment to research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional development, and science-driven solutions to pressing health and environmental concerns.

Through active engagement in national research platforms such as the PNHRS Week, DBS continues to strengthen its role in advancing knowledge and contributing to a more responsive and research-oriented academic community.

𝗠𝗥. 𝗭𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗝𝗔𝗡𝗥𝗢𝗨 𝗣𝗔𝗭, BS Biology major in Microbiology, placed among the Top 6 finalists nationwide in the Oral Research Presentation Competition under the DOST-PCHRD Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products — a distinction earned during the 19th PNHRS Week Health Converge in SOCCSKSARGEN.

Paz presented the study he co-developed with fellow Microbiology major 𝗠𝗥. 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗟𝗢 𝗗𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘, titled "𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘪-𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘺 (𝘗𝘪𝘱𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘥.) 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘌𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘊𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘰," under the guidance of their thesis adviser, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺 𝗟. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿, 𝗥𝗖𝗵𝗧.

Ranking among the country's finest undergraduate research works in natural products, this achievement stands as a proud reflection of dedication, mentorship, and scientific curiosity from the Department of Biological Sciences.

Faculty members of the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) joined fellow faculty members of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) in the LEAD Tier 1 Seminar: TOS and Assessment Construction held on August 13, 2026.

The seminar provided valuable insights into effective assessment construction, including the preparation of Tables of Specification (TOS), test construction, alternative-response and matching-type tests, supply-type assessments, rubrics, and authentic assessment—further strengthening our commitment to meaningful and quality learning experiences for our students.

The Department of Biological Sciences extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Michael B. Cahapay, Director of the Center for Curriculum Studies and Instructional Designing (CCSID), and the entire CCSID team for organizing this meaningful faculty development activity and for their continued efforts toward enhancing teaching and assessment practices.
