It is basically a groundbreaking approach designed to address the challenges of cultivating crops on hilly and sloping terrain. September 13-14, 2023 | The Extension Program entitled "Poverty Alleviation through Capacity Building and Entrepreneurship for Farmers and Fisherfolk in SOCSARGEN" conducted its training and capacity building in the two municipalities of Sarangani province - Alabel and Malapatan.

The training and capability-building conducted became a fruitful discussion wherein the training is not only a one-way transfer of ideas and knowledge. Beneficiaries were actively engaged in the training by sharing their thoughts and current farming and fishing conditions. This is one of the characteristics of Extension services where both parties benefit by gaining knowledge from the extension agents, and at the same time, agents were given an idea of the beneficiaries' and industry's current situations.

Moreover, the training and capacity-building conducted, the objectives have been successfully achieved. The training has increased the beneficiaries' knowledge of entrepreneurship, financial management, and organizational management. Conversely, they have been given knowledge about climate change and how to be resilient in the face of this environmental challenge that the agriculture and fisheries industry is facing.

August 7-8, 2023 | The Extension Program entitled "Poverty Alleviation through Capacity Building and Entrepreneurship for Farmers and Fisherfolk in SOCSARGEN" has formally started its training and capacity-building activities in the first two municipalities of Sarangani province - Kiamba and Maasim. Project 1 and Project 4 components of the program cover the seven municipalities of Sarangani province.

Project 1, titled "Entrepreneurship Education and Financial Literacy for Farmers and Fisherfolk in Sarangani Province," aims to develop the beneficiaries' entrepreneurial ability, leadership, and organizational management. Moreover, it aims to educate the beneficiaries on financial management to equip them with the necessary knowledge and capacity to run an organization. One of the project's specific objectives is to organize them into People's organization, believing that through people's organization, beneficiaries will be more eligible to avail government assistance like capitalization.

The second project component (Project 4), titled "Capability Building on the Mitigation of Climate Change among Farmers in Sarangani Province," aims to educate its beneficiaries on climate change and how to mitigate its adverse harmful impact on their livelihood, which is agriculture and fisheries.

With the training and capacity-building conducted, the objectives have been achieved. The training has increased the beneficiaries' knowledge of entrepreneurship, financial management, and organizational management. Conversely, they have been given knowledge about climate change and how to be resilient in the face of this environmental challenge that the agriculture and fisheries industry is confronting.

February 8, 2023 | A courtesy call was made to the Municipal Agriculturists of Glan and Alabel , Sarangani Province, to present the Extension Program: Poverty Alleviation Through Capacity Building and Entrepreneurship for Farmers and Fisherfolks in SOCSARGEN. The courtesy call also aimed to seek assistance in identifying 50 farmers and fisherfolks for profiling. Additionally, other concerns such as gaining support, leveraging expertise, identifying resources, and fostering community engagement were discussed to set the stage for a collaborative and successful program that addresses the specific needs and priorities of the municipality.

Presentation of the Extension Program's Memorandum of Agreement to the Sangguniang Bayan Members of the Municipality of Kiamba, Sarangani Province.

April 19, 2023 | The presentation of the Extension Program's Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to the members of Sangguniang Bayan in Kiamba, Sarangani Province, was successfully conducted. During the presentation, emphasis was placed on transparency, accountability, and resource allocation and support from both parties involved: MSU-General Santos and the Municipality of Kiamba. Local government officials carefully reviewed and comprehended the program's details, including its objectives, activities, resource requirements, and responsibilities. Through the presentation of the MOA, financial support, manpower, and other necessary resources from the local government were secured to ensure the program's successful implementation and alignment with the municipality's development plans and priorities.
