Mindanao State University – General Santos proudly hosted the 2026 Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines – Tertiary Level (MTAP-TL), Inc. Annual Convention, held on July 29–31, 2026 at Venue 88 Hotel and Events Place, General Santos City.

The three-day convention brought together mathematics educators and practitioners from across the country for meaningful academic exchange and professional engagement. It featured plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations of research outputs, and discussions on emerging trends and innovations in mathematics education. Beyond the sharing of knowledge and research, the convention provided a valuable platform for mathematics educators to exchange innovative teaching practices, research insights, and future directions in mathematics education.

Adding distinction to the event, three faculty members from MSU-General Santos served as plenary speakers: Dr. Berlita Y. Disca and Dr. Jay D. Buscano of the Mathematics Department, and Dr. Ebrahim Alpe A. Simpal, professorial lecturer of the MST Program in the Graduate Program in Education. Their participation reflects the University’s continuing commitment to advancing excellence in mathematics education, research and professional development.

The Mathematics Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to our University Chancellor, Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, and the University officials for their unwavering support in making this significant academic endeavor possible.

The Organization of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Students, together with the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, extends its warmest greetings to 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗔 𝗟𝗨𝗜𝗦𝗔 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗖𝗔𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗥𝗔, Associate Professor of the Department of Biological Sciences and CNSM Assistant Dean, on the occasion of her birthday.

Our BS Biology and MS Biology programs recently underwent comprehensive evaluations by the CHED Central Office – Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) and the Technical Panel for Biology for the applications for Center of Excellence (COE) and Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC), respectively.

Congratulations to the Department of Biological Sciences on this significant milestone. We are pleased to share that, based on the evaluation findings, the MS Biology Program recorded zero non-compliance (NC) and has been recommended for the issuance of its COPC.

We are also eagerly awaiting the official results of the BS Biology Program's application for COE status, which are expected to be announced soon. We remain optimistic and hopeful for a favorable outcome.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the University Administration, led by Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, as well as to all our faculty and staff whose hard work, teamwork and unwavering commitment made these accomplishments possible. Thank you for your dedication in preparing the required documents and ensuring our facilities were ready for the evaluation.

Together, we continue to foster academic excellence in our Biology Programs.

As we complete the introduction of our distinguished lineup for the 2026 𝗠𝗧𝗔𝗣–𝗧𝗟 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, with the theme "𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀," we are glad to present our final plenary speaker—an accomplished mathematics educator, researcher, and academic leader whose work continues to shape the future of mathematics education in the Philippines.

We are honored to introduce 𝑫𝒓. 𝑱𝒂𝒚 𝑫. 𝑩𝒖𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐 of 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒐 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚–𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒔 as one of our esteemed plenary speakers.

Dr. Buscano has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines – Tertiary Level (MTAP–TL) since 2021. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from De La Salle University and currently serves as the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Mindanao State University–General Santos. He previously held key leadership positions as Extension Director and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies of MSU–General Santos.

An accomplished mathematics educator, researcher, and academic leader, Dr. Buscano has presented scholarly papers at numerous national and international research conferences and has been invited as a plenary speaker at various local and national mathematics conferences. His work reflects his commitment to advancing mathematics education through research, leadership, and academic excellence.

Dr. Buscano also completed the Executive Course in Strategic Foresight and Futures Thinking at the Graduate School of Public and Development Management of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP). Since then, he has organized several research colloquia on Strategic Foresight and Futures Thinking for Sustainable Development, promoting futures-oriented and interdisciplinary research across academic communities.

As an advocate of strategic foresight, Dr. Buscano will deliver a plenary lecture that explores the future of Philippine mathematics education, highlighting emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities that will shape mathematics teaching, learning, and research toward 2046.

At the convention, Dr. Buscano will deliver his plenary lecture entitled:
