Division MEP Coordinator named Outstanding Secondary School Principal at DepEd GenSan awards

GENERAL SANTOS CITY-- Dr. Hanena L. Epino, Division Madrasah Education Program (MEP) Coordinator and designated School Principal III of Datu Andiam Manza National High School (DAMNHS), was recognized as Outstanding Secondary School Principal during the recent Gawad Heneral awarding ceremonies held at the Greenleaf Hotel.

Dr. Hanena L. Epino secured first place in the Division Search for Outstanding Secondary School Principal (Principal I–IV), a distinction conferred by the Department of Education–General Santos City (DepEd GenSan) in recognition of exemplary leadership, performance, and dedication to public service.

The annual Gawad Heneral, organized by DepEd GenSan, honors outstanding teachers, school heads, and program implementers whose work has made a significant impact on learners and school communities. The event also highlights achievements under specialized programs, including the Madrasah Education Program.

Under the leadership of Dr. Hanena L. Epino as Division MEP Coordinator, Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) teachers also gained division-level recognition, reflecting strengthened program implementation and academic support for Madrasah education. In the MEP category, Sharifa Omar Pendatun was awarded first place, while Saguira Ali Alangan placed second among ALIVE teachers.

Dr. Hanena L. Epino’s dual role as MEP Coordinator promoting culturally responsive and faith-sensitive education for Muslim learners, and as school principal of DAMNHS overseeing academic and administrative functions, demonstrates her strong commitment to inclusive education and effective school leadership.
Her recognition also underscores the growing importance of MEP within DepEd’s K–12 framework and affirms the division’s sustained institutional support for the Madrasah Education Program in General Santos City.

MEP Implementers Review Madrasah Education Program Implementation

Implementers of the Madrasah Education Program (MEP), composed of school heads, Schools District Supervisors, selected Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) teachers, and personnel from the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), participated in the Program Implementation Review cm Consultation Meeting held at Venue 88 Hotel and Events Place on November 14, 2025.

The activity aimed to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the implementation of the Madrasah Education Program.

The Regional MEP Coordinator, Dr. Regan B. Dagadas, attended the activity and, in his message, urged the school heads to strengthen their support for the MEP, particularly in improving Arabic reading literacy and nurturing the character of Muslim learners through Islamic Values Education.
“Muslim learners should become better Muslims not just by words but by action,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hanena L. Epino, Division MEP Coordinator, presented the accomplishments of the Madrasah Education Program in the city. She also shared her action research proposal on the development and validation of a performance evaluation tool for COS Asatidz.

School heads likewise presented their accomplishment reports based on their action plans as part of their respective schools’ Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). They also expressed their willingness to continue supporting the Madrasah Education Program.

In her closing message, Dr. Hanena L. Epino expressed her appreciation to the participants, guests, and the Technical Working Group (TWG) for their active involvement and contributions to the success of the activity.

DepEd Gensan SDO Trains Asatidz on Crafting Action Research Proposals

The Department of Education - General Santos City Schools Division Office (DepEd Gensan SDO) recently conducted a three-day training to capacitate 38 Asatidz (teachers under the Madrasah Education Program) in crafting action research proposals.

Held at Anchor Hotel on September 18, 19, and 25, 2025, the training aimed to enhance instructional practices in Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) classes by equipping teachers with practical research skills to address classroom challenges.

The participants, comprising selected permanent teachers received in-depth guidance on the fundamentals of action research, including the development of research titles, writing context and rationale, setting research goals and objectives, and identifying appropriate methodologies.

They also learned strategies for presenting, analyzing, and interpreting results using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. By the end of the workshop, participants were able to craft and present their own action research proposals, tailored to their unique classroom contexts and challenges.

A team of expert resource speakers facilitated the training: Cornelio R. Rollo, PhD; John G. Mahusay; Hanena L. Epino, PhD; Oliver M. Mantiquilla; Silver Mae C. Ramos; Irish P. Foncardas; and Jorgie P. Haw. Their sessions emphasized the importance of research-based practice and innovation in the teaching and learning process.

“This training is part of our commitment to nurturing reflective and research-oriented educators,” said Dr. Hanena L. Epino, Division MEP Coordinator. “By engaging in action research, our ALIVE teachers can create data-informed solutions that directly benefit their learners,” she added.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Madrasah Education Program, was carried out under the leadership of the Program Management Team headed by Schools Division Superintendent Isagani S. Dela Cruz, CESO V, with the support of Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Mervie Y. Seblos, CESE.

To show their support, Regional MEP Coordinator Dr. Regan Dagadas and SGOD Chief Dr. Lito S. Adanza graced the event.

HN Cahilsot Central Elementary School Showcases Excellence in ALIVE Musabaqah Skills Exhibition 2025

HN Cahilsot Central Elementary School proudly held its School-Based ALIVE Musabaqah Skills Exhibition 2025 last September 10 to 11. A vibrant celebration of Islamic values, cultural identity, and academic excellence. The two-day event brought together young learners from the Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) program to showcase their talents across a range of disciplines rooted in faith and scholarship.

The School proudly recognized the exceptional talents of its learners across various categories. In Qur'an Reading, Fathyna K. Ahang delivered a heartfelt recitation. The Quiz Bee team consisted of Rohaiana K. Ahang, Nihlah M. Torbeles, and Rawha Pangolima, who demonstrated impressive knowledge and teamwork. Fatimah Alleya A. Adam excelled in Arabic Spelling, while Ziyad K. Omar gave a moving performance in Adhan (Call to Prayer). Ashedieyah Pangolima demonstrated precision in Harf Touch, and Aashiq Bin Ameer M. Torbeles impressed with his artistry in Calligraphy. Finally, Israfeel M. Dela Cruz captivated the audience with his eloquence in Naseeha (Oration).

These outstanding learners will represent HN Cahilsot Central Elementary School in the District-Wide Musabaqah 2025 later this year, carrying with them the pride of their school and community.
The school’s Madrasah Education Program (MEP) coordinator, Ustadza Patricia A. Sadalao, expressed deep admiration for the students’ dedication and the support of their families and mentors. “This exhibition is more than a competition; it’s a reflection of our learners’ faith, discipline, and identity.”

Newly-Hired MEP Asatidz under COS Undergo Induction

Newly-appointed Asatidz (ALIVE teachers) under the Madrasah Education Program (MEP) recently participated in a comprehensive induction designed to prepare them for their vital roles in teaching Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) within madrasah implementing public schools.

The event, held at East Asia Royale Hotel on August 8-9 and 20, 2025, gathered 50 ALIVE teachers deployed across various schools in the city. CID Chief Juliet Lastimosa, warmly welcomed the participants, highlighting the importance of their work in enriching the educational landscape for Muslim learners.

Dr. Regan Dagadas, Region XII MEP Coordinator, presented an overview of the legal foundations and objectives of the Madrasah Education Program (MEP), sharing the history and evolution of the program. He discussed the key laws, policies, and DepEd orders that gave rise to and continue to support the implementation of MEP, emphasizing how these legal bases ensure its sustainability and alignment with the national education agenda. Dr. Dagadas also traced the program’s growth from its initial stages to its current status as an integral component of the basic education system, highlighting how it has expanded access to quality education for Muslim learners while promoting cultural inclusivity, religious understanding, and respect for diversity in public schools.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hanena Epino, Division MEP Coordinator, led in-depth discussions on the provisions of the contract between the ALIVE teachers and the Department of Education (DepEd), clarified their job descriptions, and outlined key teaching policies. She further explained the specific roles and responsibilities expected of the Asatidz to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum.

Sheikh Abdurrahim Abtahi, an esteemed Islamic scholar and resource person, shared strategies on balancing personal and professional values in the workplace, helping teachers navigate the challenges of maintaining integrity and professionalism in their roles. He anchored his discussion on core Islamic principles such as honesty, sincerity, discipline, and compassion, reminding the Asatidz that embodying these values not only strengthens their character as teachers but also serves as a powerful example for their learners. He further emphasized that upholding Islamic ethics in their daily practices fosters a positive school culture rooted in respect, responsibility, and spiritual growth.

Discussing Learners’ Diversity and Learner-Centered Instruction, Dr. Christopher Lumantas highlighted how teachers can address varied learning needs and foster inclusive classroom environments where every learner feels engaged and supported. He explained that recognizing the unique backgrounds, abilities, interests, and learning styles of learner is essential in designing meaningful lessons and activities. Dr. Lumantas further emphasized that by placing learners at the center of the teaching process, teachers can create opportunities for active participation, collaboration, and critical thinking, ultimately nurturing a learning atmosphere that values respect, equity, and holistic development.

Lizette May Isabel Dioso, AO V, discussed the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers, underscoring the importance of upholding ethical standards, demonstrating professionalism, and serving as role models who embody integrity, respect, and commitment to the teaching profession.

Other resource persons included Ustadza Badrana Usop, MT I, who tackled effective lesson planning. She emphasized the importance of setting clear learning objectives, aligning activities with curriculum standards, and designing engaging strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners in the ALIVE program. Meanwhile, Dr. Noreen Canacan-Adtud, HT I, discussed the proper use of the e-class record to support teaching and learning documentation, explaining how accurate and timely recording of learners’ performance can guide instructional decisions, monitor learners progress, and ensure accountability in classroom assessment.

Adding inspiration to the event, Dr. Lito Adanza, SGOD Chief, delivered an encouraging message to the ALIVE teachers, motivating them to remain steadfast, resilient, and passionate in their mission. He recognized their vital role in molding young minds and encouraged them to see their profession as a noble calling that shapes not only the learners’ academic growth but also their moral character and values.

The induction program aimed to equip the newly-hired Asatidz with the essential knowledge, skills, and professional values they need to effectively deliver Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education, ensuring quality instruction and holistic development for Muslim learners in public schools.

Dr. Hanena Epino, Division MEP Coordinator General Santos City Division expressed her gratitude to the dedicated resource persons for generously sharing their expertise, and commended the active participation of the newly-hired asatidz. Their collective efforts made the induction meaningful and enriching experience, marking the beginning of the asatidz journey as partners in advancing the Madrasah Education Program.
