Congratulations to Niña Mae B. Nabre, faculty member of the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, on her achievement as the author of a paper published in Agricultural Research, a Scopus-indexed Q3 journal.

The paper titled “Shedding Light in the Intricate Relationship Between Reproductive Biology and Some Structural Stock Dynamics: Current Status of Frigate Tuna in Southern Philippines” provides the first comprehensive assessment of the Frigate Tuna (Auxis thazard) stock in the region. Findings revealed positive allometric growth, reproductive peaks in July and February, and premature harvesting before adequate reproduction. Mortality parameters and spawning potential ratio estimates highlight the critical need for continued management efforts to conserve biomass and sustain fisheries productivity.

This achievement underscores MSU-General Santos’ commitment to advancing research in fisheries science, reproductive biology, and sustainable resource management.

From research ideas to high-impact publications, MSU-GenSan continues to build a stronger culture of scholarly excellence.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation, through the Research Division in partnership with the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), conducted the Research Publication Workshop: Writing for Scopus-Indexed Journals on September 24–25, 2026, at the CSSH Mini Theater, MSU-GenSan Fatima Campus, General Santos City.

Assoc. Prof. Marlo C. Novino of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology led the activity, guiding the participants through practical strategies for strengthening their manuscripts and navigating the publication landscape.

The two-day workshop served as a special continuation of the University's 3rd Research, Extension, and Innovation (REI) Week, extending its momentum through focused capacity-building for faculty members, researchers, and graduate students of the CBAA and College of Agriculture.

Participants engaged in sessions on developing research papers and strengthening research direction, design, and methodology, followed by discussions on identifying Scopus-indexed journals and well-aligned journal areas.

This workshop reflects MSU-GenSan's continuing effort to empower its faculty members and students not only to produce studies, but to communicate their findings through rigorous, well-designed, and publication-ready research.

Congratulations to Cathy Mae D. Toquero, faculty member of the College of Education, on her achievement as the author of a paper published in Higher Education Quarterly, a Scopus-indexed Q1 journal.

The paper titled “Trends, Trajectories and Tomorrows of AI Regulations in Philippine Higher Educational Institutions” examines the emerging challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence in higher education. Through content analysis of publicly available documents, narratives of HEI leaders, and relevant memoranda, the study highlights the limited but evolving AI policies in Philippine universities. Findings reveal pedagogical, operational, and governance dimensions of AI policies, while uncovering a normative dimension rooted in cultural diversity and community-oriented practices. The study reflects on the positioning of Philippine HEIs between “Keepers” and “Experimenters” due to fragmented policies, offering an AI framework for potential futures in the Philippine educational context.

This achievement underscores MSU-General Santos’ commitment to advancing excellence in research on education, policy, and the ethical integration of emerging technologies.

Congratulations to Jovar G. Pantao, faculty member of the College of Education, on his achievement as the author of a paper published in the Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability, a Scopus-indexed Q2 journal.

The paper titled “Peace Education in ASEAN Higher Education: A Meta-Synthesis of Practices, Outcomes, and Lessons on Education for Peace in Post-Pandemic” synthesizes scholarly works on peace education implementation in ASEAN higher education from 2022 to 2025. Using the PRISMA framework, the study identified three key themes: rethinking instructional design and educational planning, challenges in implementation, and strategies for overcoming these challenges. Findings highlight the integration of peace education into religious literacy and cross-cultural education, while lessons emphasize curriculum redesign, stakeholder alliances, and the role of religion in fostering inclusive and sustainable societies.

This achievement underscores MSU-General Santos’ commitment to advancing research in peace education, intercultural learning, and sustainable development in higher education.

From ideas to impact, MSU-GenSan puts its research, extension, and innovation initiatives on display!

As part of the 3rd Research, Extension, and Innovation (REI) Week Celebration, the OVCREI's Innovation Division spearheads MSU-GenSan's 1st University Expo today, September 15, 2026, at the University Gymnasium, MSU-GenSan, Fatima Campus.

The University Expo provides a platform for the MSU-GenSan community to showcase research and extension outputs, demonstrate innovative ideas, share knowledge, and connect with potential partners and stakeholders. The activity features exhibit booths, research and extension posters, and an innovation pitching competition designed to highlight the creativity and problem-solving capabilities of the University’s researchers, faculty, students, and innovators.

The exhibit booths and research and extension posters take center stage in the morning, giving participants and guests an opportunity to explore the University’s diverse contributions across various fields.

The afternoon shifts the spotlight to the Innovation Pitching Competition, where innovators present their ideas across four major areas: (1) Agriculture, Fisheries, Engineering, and Environment; (2) Social Sciences, Education, Business, and Enterprise; (3) Nutrition, Health, and Sanitation; and (4) Information Technology, Information Systems, and Geographic Information Systems.

With distinguished judges: Engr. Jessel Original-Cofleros of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), Engr. Efren S. Canonigo Jr. of the Sarangani Energy Corporation, and Engr. Jeremy T. Aguinea of the Metallic Pisces Engineering Works, the competition provides a valuable avenue for innovators to present solutions with potential for further development and application.
