Bagong Silang Elementary School proudly celebrated the launching of its Cultural Heritage Learning Center (CHLC) titled “Sabak.” The event marked an important milestone in promoting cultural awareness and preserving the rich traditions of indigenous communities.
The word “Sabak” is a Tboli term that symbolizes engagement, participation, and immersion in learning and cultural experiences. Through this meaningful title, the school emphasizes the importance of actively embracing and appreciating cultural heritage as part of education.
The Cultural Heritage Learning Center aims to serve as a special space where learners, teachers, and visitors can explore and understand the traditions, stories, arts, and practices of indigenous peoples, particularly the culture of the Tboli people, one of the indigenous groups in Mindanao known for their rich traditions, weaving, music, and cultural expressions.
During the launching program, school officials, teachers, and guests gathered to witness the opening of the center. The event highlighted the school’s commitment to integrating cultural education into the learning process. The CHLC “Sabak” will showcase cultural artifacts, traditional designs, learning materials, and visual displays that reflect the identity and heritage of the community.
Through this initiative, Bagong Silang Elementary School hopes to inspire learners to value their roots, respect cultural diversity, and take pride in the traditions passed down by previous generations. The Cultural Heritage Learning Center will also serve as a learning hub where students can deepen their understanding of history, culture, and identity.
The successful launching of CHLC “Sabak” reflects the school’s dedication to preserving culture while shaping students to become culturally aware and responsible members of society.
