The College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CFAS) of Mindanao State University โ General Santos proudly announces its significant contribution to the University's landmark achievement of ISO 21001:2018 Certification. As one of the colleges subjected to the external audit conducted on May 12, 2026, CFAS demonstrated the College's steadfast dedication to academic excellence and its capacity to meet internationally recognized standards in educational management.
The external audit was conducted by Ms. Mary Grace Balobalo, Lead Auditor of TรV Rheinland. She was accompanied by CFAS Internal Auditor Prof. Lordy Grace Itang and ISO Specialist Prof. Reynald Alpajando. The audit proceedings were likewise observed by Dr. Marissa Dela Cruz, Dean of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy.
The audit comprehensively assessed the extent of EOMS implementation within CFAS, with emphasis on areas directly related to instructional quality and academic governance. Specific audit focus areas included: the conduct of classroom instruction and the implementation of assessment practices; the coherence and alignment of course syllabi with prescribed assessment tools and learning outcomes; the state of laboratory facilities, including operational processes, inventory management, and equipment maintenance and calibration; feedback mechanisms such as course evaluation instruments, teaching efficiency ratings, and client satisfaction surveys; graduate tracer survey results as indicators of program effectiveness; faculty development planning and its alignment with institutional goals; and the processes governing On-the-Job Training. In addition to document review and process verification, Ms. Balobalo conducted interviews with staff and students, providing a holistic and stakeholder-informed evaluation of the College's educational management practices.
The audit yielded observations identified for improvement; however, no significant non-conformance was noted for the College. This outcome is a reflection of the collective effort, professionalism, and commitment to quality demonstrated by the CFAS administration, faculty, staff, and students. Most significantly, MSU-GenSan has been recommended for ISO 21001:2018 Certification โ a milestone achievement that affirms the University's systematic and standards-driven approach to educational management, and in which CFAS is proud to have played an integral part.
As CFAS continues to pursue excellence in fisheries and aquatic sciences education, this achievement serves as both a validation of the work already accomplished and a call to sustain and further elevate the quality of service rendered to our learners, stakeholders, and the communities we serve.
