Featuring Dr. Helen Mitchell as guest lecturer, the session will examine how states utilize economic power and strategic policy instruments to navigate and shape contemporary international relations within an increasingly interconnected global order.
๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ป ๐ ๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐น๐น is a Sir Roland Wilson Scholar at the Australian National University National Security College and a Non-Resident Economic Security Fellow at the United States Studies Centre. Her research focuses on economic security, statecraft, geopolitics, and the evolving tensions between sovereignty, security, and prosperity in the contemporary global economy.
An economist and former diplomat, Dr. Mitchell previously served Australia in New York, South Africa, and Mexico. She also served among senior experts providing strategic policy advice to the Australian Prime Minister and government. Her work develops frameworks that assist policymakers in balancing economic resilience, regional deterrence, innovation, and international influence amid emerging geopolitical and economic challenges.
She completed her training in Economics (Hons.1) and Arts at the University of Melbourne and undertook Executive Leadership training at Harvard Business School. She also speaks Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The morning session features academic discussions led by student lecturers focusing on the foundational principles, rules, and functions of parliamentary procedure. In the afternoon, the Political Science students will engage in a formal parliamentary simulation involving motions, deliberation, debate, amendments, and voting procedures, providing participants with firsthand experience in democratic and procedural decision-making.
This initiative aims to strengthen competencies in leadership, accountability, civic engagement, procedural discipline, and responsible participation in governance among future student leaders and public servants.

The parliamentary simulation will be formally evaluated by ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ฒ. ๐๐ก๐๐๐ง๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ฐ๐-๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐จ, Attorney III (Division Legal Officer) of the Department of Education โ Schools Division Office of Sultan Kudarat, legal educator, and law instructor. Atty. Bawe-Baldeo is an alumnus of Mindanao State University โ General Santos City with a degree in Political Science and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Sultan Kudarat State University. Her professional work in public service, legal practice, and legal education reflects her continued commitment to responsible governance and the rule of law.
This activity is highly encouraged for all MSUans, especially aspiring student leaders, newly elected officers, and students interested in governance, public deliberation, and organizational leadership.
