These studies reflect critical engagements with governance, society, development, history, human behavior, and contemporary social issues through theoretically grounded and evidence-based research.

Advancing the internationalization of instruction through global academic engagement, the 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝟭𝟮𝟳: 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 class presents an academic lecture entitled:

“𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲”

Featuring Dr. Helen Mitchell as guest lecturer, the session will examine how states utilize economic power and strategic policy instruments to navigate and shape contemporary international relations within an increasingly interconnected global order.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 is a Sir Roland Wilson Scholar at the Australian National University National Security College and a Non-Resident Economic Security Fellow at the United States Studies Centre. Her research focuses on economic security, statecraft, geopolitics, and the evolving tensions between sovereignty, security, and prosperity in the contemporary global economy.

An economist and former diplomat, Dr. Mitchell previously served Australia in New York, South Africa, and Mexico. She also served among senior experts providing strategic policy advice to the Australian Prime Minister and government. Her work develops frameworks that assist policymakers in balancing economic resilience, regional deterrence, innovation, and international influence amid emerging geopolitical and economic challenges.

She completed her training in Economics (Hons.1) and Arts at the University of Melbourne and undertook Executive Leadership training at Harvard Business School. She also speaks Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Student democracy once again takes center stage as the second edition of 𝐈𝐒𝐊𝐎 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 continues this semester—where parliamentary procedure functions not only as an institutional structure, but as a democratic practice shaped through disciplined deliberation, reasoned debate, and collective decision-making.

The morning session features academic discussions led by student lecturers focusing on the foundational principles, rules, and functions of parliamentary procedure. In the afternoon, the Political Science students will engage in a formal parliamentary simulation involving motions, deliberation, debate, amendments, and voting procedures, providing participants with firsthand experience in democratic and procedural decision-making.

This initiative aims to strengthen competencies in leadership, accountability, civic engagement, procedural discipline, and responsible participation in governance among future student leaders and public servants.

The afternoon parliamentary simulation will be evaluated by 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐉𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐳, Corporate Counsel for Neocash Lending Inc. and Cinton Realty and Development Corporation, cm laude graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Mindanao State University – General Santos City, and Director of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – South Cotabato and General Santos Chapter (2025–2027).

The morning session will feature an academic seminar conducted by student lecturers focusing on the foundations, rules, and applications of parliamentary procedure. In the afternoon, the Political Science students will engage in a parliamentary procedure simulation designed to provide hands-on experience in deliberation, motions, debate, voting, and organizational decision-making within democratic settings.

This activity aims to deepen students’ understanding of parliamentary procedures while strengthening competencies in leadership, civic participation, accountability, procedural discipline, and democratic governance relevant to student institutions and public service.

The parliamentary simulation will be formally evaluated by 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐏. 𝐁𝐚𝐰𝐞-𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐨, Attorney III (Division Legal Officer) of the Department of Education – Schools Division Office of Sultan Kudarat, legal educator, and law instructor. Atty. Bawe-Baldeo is an alumnus of Mindanao State University – General Santos City with a degree in Political Science and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Sultan Kudarat State University. Her professional work in public service, legal practice, and legal education reflects her continued commitment to responsible governance and the rule of law.

This activity is highly encouraged for all MSUans, especially aspiring student leaders, newly elected officers, and students interested in governance, public deliberation, and organizational leadership. Participants will gain both theoretical understanding and practical insight into conducting democratic, effective, and procedurally sound meetings and decision-making processes.
