𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻: 𝗠𝗦𝗨-𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 ₱𝟵𝟬𝟬𝗠 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲

What was once a campus preparing for a new academic year is now confronting one of the biggest challenges in its history after the June 8 earthquake left Mindanao State University-General Santos (MSU-GenSan) with nearly ₱900 million in infrastructure damage.

Recent campus inspections revealed significant damage to several key facilities, including the Y-Building, H-Building, College of Education (COED), and the ICT Complex. Assessment teams continue to consolidate reports as the university prepares rehabilitation and recovery plans for affected structures.

The Y-Building, one of the university’s longstanding landmarks and administrative hubs, was among the most heavily affected. Retrieval operations were conducted to recover essential documents and equipment, while temporary office relocations have been implemented to maintain continuity of operations.

While some buildings remain structurally stable, many sustained major architectural damage that requires extensive repairs and retrofitting. Several facilities have already been classified as off-limits or under restricted access, prompting the temporary relocation of administrative offices and academic operations.

The damage assessment indicates widespread impact across academic and support facilities, affecting classrooms, offices, laboratories, and other spaces used daily by students, faculty members, and staff.

University officials are currently finalizing comprehensive damage assessment reports for submission to relevant government agencies as part of efforts to secure funding for rehabilitation and recovery. Parallel to this, technical coordination with structural experts is underway to evaluate affected buildings and determine appropriate retrofitting and repair interventions.

Stakeholders within the university system have likewise called for sustained support to address the scale of damage and ensure the restoration of safe and functional learning environments.

MSU-GenSan continues to prioritize campus safety and operational continuity as it advances recovery planning and long-term rehabilitation efforts following one of the most significant infrastructure setbacks in its recent history.

Bilang hudyat ng kanilang pagpasok sa aktuwal na mundo ng propesyon, idinaos ang 3rd Hard Hatting at Pinning Ceremony ng mga 3rd year students mula sa Departamento ng Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) noong ika-3 ng Hunyo sa Veranza Atrium.

Sa temang “Gear Up, Go Serve: Ready for the Field,” binigyang-diin ng programa ang kahalagahan ng pagiging handa, responsable, at may sapat na kakayahan sa pagharap sa mga hamon ng propesyon.

Tampok sa seremonya si Engr. Princess Anne Cacatian bilang keynote speaker, na nagbahagi ng kanyang mga karanasan at mahahalagang aral mula sa industriya. Hinikayat niya ang mga estudyante na ituring ang nalalapit na on-the-job training hindi lamang bilang isang akademikong rekisito, kundi bilang isang oportunidad na maipakita ang dedikasyon, propesyonalismo, at kahusayan sa trabaho upang makapag-iwan ng positibong impresyon at maipakita ang kanilang kakayahan.

Layunin ng Hard Hatting at Pinning Ceremony na pormal na kilalanin ang kahandaan ng mga estudyante sa pagsisimula ng kanilang on-the-job training at sa pagpasok sa mas malawak na larangan ng industriya. Bahagi ito ng patuloy na adyenda ng departamento sa paghubog ng mga mahuhusay at responsableng propesyonal sa hinaharap.

The first day of the event marked the introduction of a fresh lineup of innovative and interactive products and exhibits created by the ABE students from different year levels.

With its mission to bring students, innovators, and aspiring technopreneurs together in showcasing their studies and research, the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) Expo 2026 was held, featuring product exhibits, pitching activities, and presentations that highlighted the skills and creativity of ABE students in Veranza Mall, General Santos City, March 21-22.

Anchored to the theme, “Advancing ABE through Digitalization and Innovative Processing Systems for Sustainable Food Security and Technopreneurship,” the expo served as a platform for ABE students to showcase their research and innovative ideas across three main categories: Computer Vision, Food Innovation, and Structural Design.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

These categories emphasized the integration of technology, creativity, and sustainability in addressing challenges in agriculture, food processing, and industrial development.

One of the major highlights of the event was the recognition received by “EGGxact: A YOLO-Based Egg Size Identification System,” which won both the Computer Vision and Most Innovative App awards for its application of artificial intelligence in egg classification and processing.

Another notable project, “isdat u?: A YOLO-Based Multi-Species Fish Identifier for Local Wet Markets,” earned the Best Presenter (Comapp) award after demonstrating how artificial intelligence can improve the identification of fish species in local markets.

In the Structural Design category, Beanella secured both the Structural Design and Structural Model awards, while Green Bites received the Best Presenter (Structures) award for its outstanding presentation performance.

Projects under the Food Innovation category also gained recognition during the expo. Rizz Ripe won the Food Innovation award, while Chewmato received the Food Innovation Presenter award for its presentation and product concept.

In the field of agricultural technology, GUARDYARN was awarded the AgroTech Pitching title for its business proposal and presentation, while EcoStir/Sach-Away earned the AgroTech Product award for introducing a practical innovation for agricultural use.

The event’s highest recognition, the Most Outstanding Innovation award, was presented to Moriclear for its concept, innovation, and overall contribution to the objectives of the expo.

The ABE Expo 2026 highlighted the importance of research, innovation, and digitalization in improving local industries and promoting sustainable community development.

Through the different competitions, exhibits, and presentations, the event encouraged students to continue developing practical and technology-driven solutions for the future of agriculture and entrepreneurship.

As the expo recognizes outstanding student-led innovations, the event demonstrated the growing role of young innovators in contributing to technological advancement and sustainable solutions for society.

The Mindanao State University – General Santos (MSU-GenSan) once again demonstrated its academic and technical excellence in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering during the 75th PSABE Annual National Convention, 37th Agricultural Engineering Week and 22nd International Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Conference and Exhibition, held from April 19 to 24, 2026, at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill in Koronadal City.

Competing against some of the brightest minds in the country, the “Bayaws” of MSU-GenSan secured multiple podium finishes, proving that innovation and technical expertise continue to thrive in the region.

One of the convention’s highlights was the Technical Paper Presentation, where the MSU-GenSan alumni earned 3rd Place with the study titled "Aquacel: Design, Development, and Field Validation of an Arduino-Based Cellular Transmission Device for Aquaculture Water Quality", authored by Engr. Kurt Rhen C. Ming, Engr. Alpha Joy T. Felipe, Engr. Jillie R. Dingcong, and Engr. April Hilarylynn Jagunos, under the advisement of Engr. Rener B. Tandugon, who also presented the study.

Beyond professional competitions, the convention also provided a platform for the PSABE Pre-Professional Group (PPG), where the MSU-GenSan Chapter delivered an outstanding performance across several high-stakes events.

Nisan Jade N. Batislaon, a 3rd-year BSABE student, showcased exceptional precision by clinching 1st Place in Machine Parts Identification. In the CAD Challenge, Kein Ryan C. Fuentes demonstrated remarkable digital design expertise, also securing 1st Place. Meanwhile, in the QGIS Challenge, 4th-year student Naseem Jamid Sabpa earned 2nd Place.

In the 3-Point Pitch competition, MSU-GenSan Team 2—composed of Al-Faisal S. Pagabangan, Ethan Jibrael G. Diola, and Kate Cristylle F. Pinagunda—secured 1st Place with their compelling presentation of engineering solutions. They were followed by MSU-GenSan Team 1, consisting of Christine Mae Avenido, Kaila Claire Casuyon, and Zoren Gabutan.

Demonstrating teamwork and agility, the group of Kent Jhone Alburo, Zekar Iremeo, Jerold Pacupac, Allaine Nones, and Jonard Tigas claimed 1st Place in the ABEmazing Race.

The university also showcased its depth of knowledge in the ABEMazing Quiz. Team 1, composed of Rekkalene May V. Zabala, Eliu E. Aguilar, and Jhon David L. Mesagandre, secured 3rd Place, while Team 2—Angelene Grace L. Castañares, Cindy May D. Belinario, and Kristina Cashmyrr Cuna, placed 4th.

The 75th PSABE Annual National Convention concluded by celebrating not only the achievements and accolades earned but also the promising future of sustainable agriculture and biosystems engineering in the Philippines, continuing its legacy of excellence.

Unlike seasoned candidates, Jane openly embraces her beginnings. She spends her days attending pasarela sessions with her glam team, learning to balance grace and confidence—literally—in 6.5-inch heels. Each step she takes is a quiet victory, proof that growth comes with courage. Beyond the runway, she sharpens her voice through public speaking training, preparing herself for the unpredictable questions that test not just wit, but authenticity.

Despite being new, her mindset reflects both humility and determination. When asked about her chances of winning, she expressed:

She commits to giving her best but still doesn’t forget to stay grounded. Indeed, a queen with a heart of gold.

Rooted in her academic background in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, she champions a cause that is both urgent and deeply personal: encouraging the youth to enter agriculture. She explained:

The Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers (PSABE) officially kicked off its 75th Annual National Convention, signaling a diamond celebration that honors decades of leadership, service and innovation in the field of PSABE held at Koronadal City.
Pre-professional and professional “bayaws” from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao showed their excitement as they gathered in the city to celebrate day one that reflected the organization’s enduring influence, bringing together students, educators, industry practitioners, and licensed engineers under one banner of shared purpose.

Filled with anticipation from MSU-Gensan chapter, day one began with registration, followed by launching of this ceremony during flag raising that fully acknowledged this year’s event.

There were also booths and stalls that were displayed by agricultural and cultural groups that showcased how both of these can be highlighted in one single event

The festive atmosphere continued with the “Takbong Bayaw” Fun Run, which brought participants together in a spirited display of unity and wellness as they became energized while also fostering camaraderie, setting a positive and engaging tone for the convention.

Jonard Tigas, a 3rd-year student from MSU- Gensan chapter who bagged the first place for this year’s fun run, expressed that he felt a sense of fulfillment after winning.

As the 75th PSABE Annual National Convention unfolds, Day 1 has already delivered a strong start that created excitement for the following days. The coming days promise to build on this momentum, further showcasing the organization’s enduring legacy and its vision for the future.
