General Santos City, 120800 September 2026 โ The Mindanao State University โ General Santos ROTC Unit conducted its ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ก ๐๐ก๐ ๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ for Academic Year 2026โ2027 at the MSU-GSC Gymnasium, bringing together ROTC cadets for an orientation on the yearโs training guidelines, responsibilities, and national security concerns.
The activity formally introduced cadets to the requirements and expectations of the ROTC program, including cadet responsibilities, assignments, discipline, and other important matters concerning their participation in military training. The orientation also emphasized the importance of preparedness, discipline, commitment, and proper conduct as cadets begin another year of ROTC training.
โA significant portion of the program focused on ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ช๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฎ (๐ช๐ฃ๐ฆ), providing cadets with a deeper understanding of the countryโs maritime security concerns. The keynote speaker, an officer from the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Region XII, discussed the issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea and the South China Sea, emphasizing the importance of national awareness, critical thinking, and informed citizenship in addressing matters of security and sovereignty. โUnderstanding the issues surrounding our waters is not only a responsibility of those in uniform, but a responsibility shared by every Filipino,โ the NICA 12 officer emphasized.

โThe discussion also encouraged cadets to understand the significance of the terms West Philippine Sea and South China Sea within their respective contexts. Beyond military preparedness, the symposium underscored the responsibility of young Filipinos to remain vigilant, informed, and conscious of developments that may affect the countryโs national interests.
Under the supervision ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐จ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข (๐๐ก๐) ๐ฃ๐, Commandant, the ROTC Orientation Proper was headed by ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ด ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ฒ ๐ฃ ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ (๐๐ป๐ณ) ๐ฃ๐. Their leadership and guidance ensured that the cadets were properly oriented and prepared for the activities and responsibilities of the academic year.
The orientation and symposium further reinforced the role of ROTC in developing disciplined and responsible students who are prepared not only to serve but also to understand their duties as citizens. Through activities such as this, cadets are reminded that patriotism extends beyond the uniformโit also calls for knowledge, awareness, and active responsibility toward the nation.
